Title: Ref tracking fouls
Post by: guest3468 on January 28, 2018, 06:58:47 pm
In the 7th grade rec game between Owasso Hot Shots and BA Silver in BA on the 27th ref told #34 for BA .."foul on 34 then told the boy thats five you are out. Ref did not tell coach or confer with score desk if it was five. Two minutes passed and a coach asked the scores table how many fouls did 34 have and they said only 4. Curious is the ref keeping track of fouls or is the scores table.? Is ref supposed to confer. Never heard where the refs were tracking fouls in a game..

Never heard of that either.  That should be the official book's responsibility.  What time was the game and on which court and I will check with the officials on the game.

Sorry I have not been able to find out more about the situation that you were talking about, neither official remembers a situation like you described.
Sometimes officials send a kid off the court and tell the coach he needs to cool down for a minute or two instead of assessing a technical foul? could this have been that situation, I am not sure.  Again, officials have enough to worry about without keeping track of fouls on each player in the game, so I will make sure they know not to do this.

I can assure you that the officials calling your 7th grade rec basketball game are not their to cheat you though so I am not sure what your suspicions are about officials?

1, Ref never spoke to coach
2. Ref stated to boy " Foul on 34 that's five you are out.
3. This boy has played rec/competetive basketball- socceer- football since the third grade w/out missing a season. Never had a technical , or personal foul called on him. One yellow card in socceer. So do not buy the thought he wanted him to "cool down". Ask any coach and they will testify to this kids character.
4. Believe ref allowed his personal feelings to get the best of him and overstepped.

I realize the refs have a tough job and unrewarding most of the time and I appreciate thier willingness to ref these games. However; in this instance I believe the situation got the best of him. Thanks for your input and appreciate you looking into this. Overall the refs have done a good job this season.
