Refs
« on: January 16, 2018, 09:01:39 pm »
Whomever the refs were on Tuesday night at owasso7th grade center need an education on how to ref.   Ref hob is to call the game and not to interact with crowd, not the first time Iíve seen these two do this.

If you would like to go into more detail on what your complaint is please send me an email at bkelleyok@gmail.com
Both officials have been calling for a while and know how to call.

Why waste my time?   Weíve heard for years the refs are gonna get better and nothing changes!   Is a ref supposed to talk to fans in crowd?   I donít care how long theyíve been calling, they still do it.   Even had a guy from other team that was sitting in front of me that is a college ref that said the refs need some education on interacting w crowd.

Also, if ref stops play for ďinjured playerĒ does that player have to be substituted for?

Sounds like you have your mind made up but to answer your questions:

An official can absolutely address the crowd and have a fan removed if needed.  Some officials are better at it than others and I would prefer they get game administration involved but that is not always an option at that very moment.

Not necessarily on the injured player, if the coach comes onto the court to attend to a injured player then the player will have to come out until the next dead ball.  If the player says, I am okay and the coach does not come onto the court, the player can continue to play.

Iím done w officials and crowd, some are good and others are more concerned w whatís going on in the crowd.   Officials need to ref the game and worry about what is going on in the game, period.  Fans are gonna hoop and holler and disagree, doesnít mean the official need to interject and get involved.
So again to 12 oíclock game at owasso 7th grade center between Owasso Nationals and BABronze 9 graders.  Player injured, officials stopped game, coach entered court to attend player.  I had to call timeout to clarify the player had to be substituted for bc coach entered the floor to check on him.  Official told me I didnít know rule and I was wrong. The other coach knew I was right and he went ahead and substituted for injured player, otherwise he was going to allow him to stay in.

If you are still playing INBC in 9th grade, you should just take it for what it is...recreational basketball.

Unless you're on college scholarship or getting paid to play, it's all recreational basketball.

MacDaddy there are a large number of people who agree with you but do not speak  out. Officiating is sub-par at best. Too many refs worried about crowd than game. If they cannot handle an excited crowd they should not be officiating. It seems if a person voices an opinion they are threatened with removal. I have also noticed they have a tendency to protect less skilled players. More likely to call fouls on a dominant boy. They should have one coach from each team ref results would probably be better. Go to any game and notice  the grumbling from crowd. Get in school ball first chance you get or move to AAU ball. Regardless if its just rec people are still having to pay for these refs. Just wanted you to know alot of people share your feeling but realize speaking out falls on deaf ears

Would love to help you get started officiating.  Please give me a call and I will get you hooked up, I will even make room for you to call next weekend?
918-607-2055.  I love your idea of getting more coaches into officiating, I do both and I can say it definitely will change your perspective.  Just like it would if you were a fan that thought you could officiate better, I implore you to sign up, we obviously need more officials.  Meetings start at the end of September for next year, just call me and I can get you started.

I can attest that the refs have been less than desirable this season, and especially during the post season. Not calling a clear foul on one side but the exact same action draws a foul on the other side. Been this way through the last three games we have played in the post season. They have sent a clear message that they do not want us to catch a win. Out played our opponents and the refs most games. Lost the last game after some pretty poor calls. Iím no expert by any means but I do know you canít hit a players arm during his shot and you canít reach over a players back when he has the ball.

I agree. My child is a dominant player and he gets fouls called against him more than others.  Yet the refs don't see when the opposing team fouls my child. Its frustrating to watch game after game the same things. No changes in officiating skills. My child gets frustrated and feels he is doing something wrong the entire game. Makes the players afraid to play good D. Makes the entire game feel off.  Makes it less fun to watch when the officials are NOT FAIR to both sides.

Whoever was working the 5th grade JenksWhite/SS game did an absolute injustice to all those boys. Iím embarrassed to be a part of this organization where such a horrible representation of sportsmanship is displayed by the refs. Mouthing/bad attitude to both sides the entire game. Gave the SS coach a hard time before and during the game. Donít even get me started on the imbalance of fouls and general lack of knowledge of the rules. Donít worry, we have game film. Disgusting. Classless. Do better.
