Post by: Frontline on October 27, 2019, 02:58:19 pm
Jenks Silver vs BXB Blue
This game will be decided on how effective #34 for Jenks and #10 are for their clubs.  Both are playmakers and the question will be, who’s defense decides to win the game and make stops against said playmakers.  Staying true to the colors and going with BXB Blue in a dog fight!

Sand Springs vs Westmoore
Don’t know much about Westmoore, but do know that SS defense is relentless.  Does Westmoore have the mental toughness to take the continued pounding, IDK?  Looks like Westmoore couldn’t stop Edmond, and SS May have the offense going just enough to score.  Going with SS in a close one since they home and it’s late on a school night.

Choctaw Gold vs Owasso Red

This game intrigued me because CG blew out just about everyone then gets blown out by Edmond.  They look big and aggressive.  Owasso Red May need to win this through the air.  Can they get it going early is the question because I’m not sure they can come from behind.  Going with Westmoore because of the eye test.

Union Silver vs Owasso White

Not sure where that offense OW tried to run last weekend against BXB Red came from, but it wasn’t OW.  You don’t win 7 games running that.  Maybe they were not wanting to show their hand for playoffs, but with Front Row, that theory doesn’t fly.  Maybe they can get some key plays back this week, #10?  Union Silver is experienced and too fast for OW.  I’m picking Union Silver by a couple TD’s.

AA
I would love to give you guys some love, but I’m clueless.  Looks like this could be a toss up for the golf ball.  Going with all the higher seeds in first round.

1st round A
Jenks Silver hosts Bixby Blue We played Silver last year and they were really good.  I don't know a thing about Bixby blue.  That said, I'm going with Silver.
Sand Springs hosts Westmoore East vs West.  Offense vs Defense.  Offense wins championships...right?  :)
Choctaw Gold hosts Owasso Red I know nothing about OR but CG is tough.
Union Silver hosts Owasso White  I know nothing about OW but i've watched a little tape on silver to see what Raider was talking about and they do look good.

1st round AA
Lincoln Christian hosts Union Red
Berryhill hosts Cascia Hall
Verdigris hosts BA Platinum
Bartlesville hosts Collinsville

Bixby Blue has the right tools to win this and  "The President" to help pull it off. Jenks Silver is a complete team that knows how to win. Should be a great game to watch! I'm afraid the Spartans may already be defeated mentally though. Hopefully they show up and make it a great game. If not, this will get ugly. I'm picking the home team in this one. Jenks Silver 20.....BXB Blue 6.

Choctaw Gold has everything going for em in this one. Home game on a school night. They should be fired up and ready to show the east they can hang. If Owasso Red does what they're capable of doing, they could win this with their speed and athleticism. I don't think they'll show though. I'm taking the home team in the only game the east  win. Choctaw Gold 26......Owssso Red 20.

Westmore may have a good team this year but they will have to be clicking on all cylinders to score on the Sandites. SandSprings has a top defense and they know how to play "playoff football". I don't see them losing at home, not on a school night. SandSprings 13....Westmore 0.

Hot boys and the Rams! Should be a great game if you know who is healthy and playing! But if not, the Rams won't be able to keep up. Union has all the horses but will they walk the walk or just talk the talk? I think Owasso has something up their sleeve for the Hots Boys but without their "work horse" they may get ran out the stadium. I say he won't be playing and therefore Union Silver 26...Owass White 12.

1st round A
Jenks Silver hosts Bixby Blue
This is a tough one because these teams are similar...I’m in agreement with Frontline that it will come down to key players and how well they play. Weather will also be a factor considering it’s going to be a cold and wet game. Going to give the edge to Bixby Blue in a tough sloppy game!

Sand Springs hosts Westmoore
Westmoore has a chance if they score early and jump on the Sandites forcing them to struggle with substitutes. That said, Sand Springs has been here before and knows playoff football. Sand Springs by a couple.

Choctaw Gold hosts Owasso Red
The drive to Choctaw for the late game may help them against Owasso. This game will probably be a high scoring event on the ground. Owasso wins with too much speed.

Union Silver hosts Owasso White
If Owasso White isn’t healthy this one will get ugly. Going with U Silver in a tune up win going into Metro.

1st round AA
Lincoln Christian hosts Union Red
Lincoln Christian is too strong - LC by 3 TD

Berryhill hosts Cascia Hall
Going with Berryhill in a ground and pound game.

Verdigris hosts BA Platinum
BA Platinum with the edge.

Bartlesville hosts Collinsville
Collinsville with the upset.

(I'm still having problems posting the AA bracket)
Playoffs – 6th grade

First Round A
Jenks Silver hosts Bixby Blue – Like everyone else, I am struggling with this one. (Not seeing film on either one hurts my ability to make an informed pick.) Considering these two teams play less than 10 miles apart, I don’t feel like home field advantage means much here. They have identical records (on the field), nearly identical defenses but Blue has the offensive edge. Blue was the stronger team early in the season but the controversies and the loss to SS has to be in their heads. Silver, despite the loss to the defending champs, has been trending up. Don’t ask me why, but after all that I just said, my pick is still coming down to a hunch which says Silver in a close one.

Sand Springs hosts Westmoore – I wish I could watch this game in person. It will be a classic “high octane offense” vs “tough, smash-mouth defense” kind of game (perhaps like Big 12 vs SEC). I haven’t seen SS play this year but I have been “watching” them for the past several years so I would never underestimate their defense and their playoff experience. Westmoore entered the league last year with a pretty good team and has vastly improved this year with some key additions and some excellent coaching. It’s funny when people detract from what Westmoore has done this year because they got beat by Edmond. Edmond has the top offense in the entire league and I would rank their defense in the top 3 or 4. Not only did Westmoore put up the first score all year on Edmond, they were the first team to finish with positive yardage. If Westmoore shows up, their defense should have no problem holding the SS offense and I think their offense might find a crack or two in that SS defense. I’m going with Westmoore in a low scoring game.

Choctaw Gold hosts Owasso Red – Owasso Red has been considered a top 10/15 team for the entire time I’ve been involved with this grade/league. With that being said, I know that this year’s Choctaw Gold team is the real deal. They are big, fast and aggressive. If Edmond had not come ready to play, that game could have had a different outcome. I really think that Gold wins this one at home.

Union Silver hosts Owasso White – Owasso White has a good offense with a key player who may or may not be playing in this game. I know I tease Raider all the time, but his “Hot Boys” are certainly the real deal this year as well. They are well coached and have considerable talent and playoff experience. Even if White is at full strength, I don’t see them walking into Union-Tuttle Stadium and taking the win. I think Silver will win by 2 or more scores.

1st round AA
Lincoln Christian hosts Union Red – Since Lincoln Christian is one of only 4 remaining undefeated teams this year, I think they take this one in a cake walk.

Berryhill hosts Cascia Hall – These teams have had similar seasons but Cascia lost their last two games. That, along with the fact that Berryhill took the first meeting of these two teams in the season opener, has me giving this one to Berryhill in a close game at home.

Verdigris hosts BA Platinum – After a hot start, Platinum dropped three in a row but finished the season with a two-score win over Pryor. On the other hand, Verdigris has won seven in a row so they get my pick in this game.

Bartlesville hosts Collinsville – Collinsville beat Bartlesville pretty good in the season opener but have had a bit of a mixed bag of wins and losses since then. Bartlesville is riding a five-game winning streak as they head into the playoffs so they get my pick to revenge their earlier loss.

That is tough to gauge because mostly I have seen them play Edmond's offense which is on another level. I have seen a few games between other teams in Division 1 (besides the Bulldogs) but none obviously against any east-side teams. I guess if I had to rank Division 1 defenses against each other, the top 5 would be Bulldogs, Choctaw Gold, Westmoore, Edmond Huskies and then 5th would be a toss-up between Choctaw Blue, Yukon and Piedmont, depending on who showed up. Based on my experience with east-side teams in previous years, I would rank Choctaw Gold & Westmoore defenses somewhere in the top 10 or 15 of 6th grade...but that is really a wild guess. Outside of their match-ups with Edmond, they haven't allowed a lot of points (Gold - 18 & Westmoore - 57).  Obviously, this is all a judgement call on my part.

With that said, is Edmonds on another level offense that much better than East side offenses with all the 35-0 victories, or is most west side defenses not that good.  I guess we will find the answers to all these questions and more in the next 12 days!  Going to be fun!!  I may have to make a road trip to Choctaw tomorrow night and check out the CG/OR game.

BXB Blue over Jenks Silver- I rolling with the President. Kid is Top Shelf

Sand Springs over Westmoore- Taking the Sadites. Cold weather favors a Hard hitting team. SS is experience will prevail.

Red Rams over Choctaw Gold- O-Red is a well built team. Conditioning is suspect but other than that they have a legitimate shot at the semi's

Hot Boys 🔥 over O-white. Game plan is to get out early and rest. "Walk the walk or talk the talk" Good question, let's see how it goes. Dont matter who's hurt, our boys been dealing with nagging injuries all year. But the "The Greatest Show on Turf" must go on. I heard this game is sold out!

Tough weather conditions. Union played hard all the way to the end. It was a tough turn around for Union, did not realize they got out of school so late. It was tough to make the 6pm game. They showed and gave no excuses about their situation. Very impressed with the coaches and players.

Well , down goes the West. No surprise. There are teams in the east that should have been in the playoffs. The West are given two playoff teams by the league. I understand the big picture but right now it sucks for teams that didn't get in that are better at this point than the West. Edmond is contender after that the West doesn't have a team that should have been given a spot. Oh well, ahhhh, catch me sum catfish. Better yet bag me a deer since it's that season. Hot Boys moving on. Congrats young fellas.

East has 24 teams and 9 playoff spots.  West has 10 teams and only 3 spots.   They deserve their spot as much as anyone else.  There are no East side non-playoff teams that have earned anything more than they’ve gotten.  I saw Westmoore tonight and they would give any non playoff team a run for their money, just didn’t have anything for that big, physical Sand Springs defense.   But... who really has this season?

I watched the cold and rainy OwassoRed/ChoctawGold game and it was a great battle! It looked at 1st like it could go either way........and then #0 showed up, LOL! That kid can play, along with the rest of the RedRams. Choctaw did have the size, the speed, and the athletes to win but trying to run that high school type offense, along with trying to contain #0 & #43, they just couldn't do it consistantly for 4Quarters. I believe Gold is a step above the Wagoner's and McAlister's in the east or at least very similar. They rank about where I've had em all year (in the top 15). RedRams however are a top 10 team and played like it on gameday! Great game Rams and great coaching.

So, last night's cold, wet games determined 3 of Saturday's 4 quarter-final game match-ups. Stay tuned tonight to see if Jenks Silver or Bixby Blue will be making the trip on Saturday to play in Edmond's brand-spanking new stadium. Also, half of the AA bracket will be decided tonight.

Kudos to my friend @Raider Nation on his son's team taking care of business to advance to the next round and also on his successful predictions for last night's games. Maybe Frontline was right to call him the "football prophet".   ;D

I'm not surprised by the Westmoore/SS result, especially considering the weather. I probably would have given SS the edge had I looked up the forecast for last night when I posted my picks. SS is a battle-tested, playoff-experienced team that has the toughness to play in those sorts of adverse conditions. To give them credit, Westmoore was able to score on one of the top defenses in the league, something the defending champs weren't able to do in the season opener. Good luck to their players, parents and coaches as they move into school ball next year.

I will admit I was a little surprised by the Choctaw/Owasso game outcome, even with the tough conditions. I'm glad to hear from @JackRabbitSlim that Choctaw made a good accounting of themselves and of the best in the west in the game. I also wish them good luck next year in school ball.

Hopefully, as the west teams continue to expand their presence in INFC, they will begin to develop the mental and physical toughness that is indicative of the best teams in the east. Developing these kids into tough and talented high school football players is the main reason we all do this.

I have seen some of them play and Edmond has scrimmaged them in the past. They aren't quite as good as they brag. The teams I have seen usually have a roster of 50 or 60 (no play counts) and travel from tournament to tournament but do nothing on the weekends (they complained to me that INFC games are always on Saturdays). I'm not sure how they practice much which is why they usually aren't very individually disciplined with the fundamentals of the game. From my personal observation, every play goes through a few studs on the team and that's about it. Also, most of their fields, facilities and equipment aren't on par with most of the INFC teams. I don't know for sure, but I believe that some of the improvement in several of the west teams this year was from large and athletic players moving over from those other leagues to our INFC teams (possibly so they can receive some better individual coaching).

This is how bad INFC wants the West side to succeed.  Good luck to Choctaw Gold in the second round!

I'm glad to hear from @JackRabbitSlim that Choctaw made a good accounting of themselves and of the best in the west. I also wish them good luck next year in school ball.

Hopefully, as the west teams continue to expand their presence in INFC, they will begin to develop the mental and physical toughness that is indicative of the best teams in the east. Developing these kids into tough and talented high school football players is the main reason we all do this.

After rereading my comments about the west developing more toughness,  I thought I would clarify that I mean specifically the teams OTHER than Edmond. The Bulldogs have always been tough and capable of beating any team in the league. I know that several west teams worked to improve rosters this year because of how dominant Edmond played them in the past. What is the saying? "A rising tide lifts all ships."

I never said I was tough!  ...and I have to skip the hot cocoa because I'm on a diet.

Wow.......what a game! The Spartans and  Trojans both had mishaps, turnovers, TD's called back, BIG plays, BIG tackles, and snow flurries! Lol! That game went from a Bixby 13-0 lead in the 4th quarter(with people starting to leave)to Jenks trailing 13-8 (less than 3min left) driving on the Spartans 30yrd line and a TD wins the game! Great playoff football! BixbyBlue's #10 "The President" had 2TD's and that Spartan defense showed up! Jenk's TD came on a BIG play kickoff return, that I thought might spark the Trojans for a major comeback win but came up short. Good job on both sides! GREAT coaching!
