Title: The CFP/AP/USAToday/CBSsports/PRESSpass/INFC Coaches & Parents 6th Grade Forum Poll - Week 6
Post by: PRESSPass on October 01, 2019, 02:13:39 pm
The saying goes that "Defense Wins Championships." When you look at the teams consistently in the top 10 each week, it holds true that they generally have strong defenses. With that in mind, I'm going to offer my take on the current placing of the top 10 or 12 teams in 6th grade (the top 6 are currently undefeated).

1. Bixby Red (Top until knocked off, have allowed 0 points)

2. TIE - Edmond Bulldogs (second highest scoring, one of only two teams to allow 0 points), Union Silver (scored most in league while allowing 6 points) and TYAA Blue (has allowed 12 points)

5. TIE - Jenks Silver (allowed 16 points) and Bixby Blue (allowed 18 points)

7.  Choctaw Gold (very big, fast and aggressive - allowed 12 points through 4 games before slamming into a tough and prolific Edmond offense)

8.  Owasso White (still a tough team that should make the playoffs in a strong division)

9. Metro Christian (on the move up the division standings after beating SS)

10. TIE - Lincoln Christian (undefeated-allowed 25 points), BA Platinum (undefeated - allowed 18 points) and Westmoore (statement win with shutout over T-wolves)

Other teams receiving "votes:"  Owasso Red, Cascia Hall, Verdigris, Berryhill, Hilldale

Total yards allowed would be a great topic debate if someone wants to go watch all the games and provide those stats.

Ummmm...it is hard enough just pulling schedules from the website for PICKems...but if you have the time to watch every game, we could get some debate going!  😎😎😎😎

Hell I barely have time to watch a little film of our next opponent.  It will be fun come playoff time! You were correct when you said ďDefense Wins ChampionshipsĒ!

No one else is going to weigh in? There has got to be some other opinions in 6th grade!

1. Bluedogs- I have them ranked ahead of Bixby Red becuz I think they are hungry and if the 2 played in the regular season Blue would beat Red. Now, playoffs, I may put Red ahead of Blue
2. Edmond- Edmond might have the best Offensive attack in the league. They can score from anywhere on the field. Not the best Defensively but good enough to beat anyone.
3. BXB Red- As I said before if this was playoff time The Red Machine would be my #1 team.
4. Jenks Silver- I think they are overrated here but who else would you put here. The Trojans showed me enough heart in the owasso game to give em #4
5. Mclester- I know I know, but i never would have thought the buffs would in position to make the playoffs. Hard work pays off and im giving them boys and coaching staff sum love.
6 Sand Springs- this is another playoff team. Gotta have defense to win at that time of the year and SS has some. However the O is suspect and I think mclester could beat em
7. Owasso Red- After watching the film, the Red Rams left a lot of plays on the field against the Bluedogs Defense. If they could have turn a couple of those plays ...who knows
8. Metro- I got Metro sitting at 8th only becuz I still knock them for last years AA decision. But make no mistake the Metro Boys can play. Without my 2018 thumbs down they would be in my top 5. Good job Metro
9. Owasso White- This is another team built for the playoffs. #7 just might be the strongest runner in the grade. Only thing is coaching gotta find a way to rest him so that he'll be fresh in the redzone.
10. BXB Blue- President right, President left. Thats all they have but he's dangerous
11. U-Silver - someone said "everyone has caught up to them" really? the most points scored and the defense hasn't give up a point. But hey we will see how it goes these next to weeks against Owasso Red Air raid attack and Bluedogs stout defense.

@raider youíre holding that grudge for a long time #MAGA

1. BXB red-  top spot until somebody figures out how to block #39
2. U silver- after watching film Iím not convinced they might not have the best team. They are a match up problem at receiverand they have a great power run game  Silver has been really good in the past but with the ability to pass now they are a match up problem on defense. Btw their defense can GO!
3. Tyaa blue- great team! Got size and spread everywhere. Fun to watch as long as youíre not their opponent
4.Edmond- after watching film, I love their offense line and defense! They will be a handful in the playoffs. Only thing is playing in the west side, if they get in a close game will their kids be able to handle it? We will see in the playoffs
5. Jenks Silver- really well coached on their D and O lines and are Offensively itís just not #34 right and left. They try to keep the def off balance in a number of ways. Good job guys!
6. BXB blue- solid team with a GREAT RB! If youíre out of position on def he is scoring. They have one of the best QBs in the league at Fullback SMH they will have a team that can make a run in the playoffs.
7. Metro- I would have put OWhite here but rumor is #7 is out for the year and if true that a game changer because that kid is a real football player! Metro changed their offense to their HS spread system and every week the kids are getting more comfortable in the system. Our kids arenít scaring anybody at weigh in but they are really coachable and play extremely hard. We tried to put a 4-4 defense in for the first 4 games but we went back to what has worked in the past because we were giving up too many big plays.
8. SS- ummm they ARE scary at weigh in if that team had 23 kids instead of 3000 kids they would be a great team. They got some dudes on defense that can GO!! Offensively they run their HS spread which is very hard to coach with that many players.
9. Choctaw gold- I love watching this team on film. Great middle backer and really love what they are doing on offense. They got hammered by Edmond but they will win the rest of their games.
10. O white- like I said if #7 is healthy they are higher on my list. #7 is a nasty old school throw back player and they have one of the top 5 linemen in the league. That big joker is a handful.

Raider thanks for the additional motivation.  With a key player going down for the year and getting four players off the DL this week or next BXB Red is on a MISSION.  The boys are fresh, motivated, hungry, and angry!  Going to McClain this week to Prep for Playoffs!  Molon Labe!!

1 - Bixby Red - come on...really...watch film
2 - TYAA Blue - nothing has changed, still dominating
3 - Union Silver - multiple play makers on offense and sound defense
4 - Edmond - strong defense and impressive offense, could be higher but only playing in West makes it hard to judge
5 - Jenks Silver - played some tough games but sound all around
6 - Bixby Blue - high scoring offense and speed on defense
7 - Metro Christian - very disciplined team that will be a force in play offs
8 - Choctaw Gold - impressive team with only blemish coming from strong Edmond squad
9 - Owasso White - injury or not this is a good team
10 - Sand Springs - defense may win championships but you have to score. Less kids and they are for sure up higher on the list.

Ahhh...finally some chatter in this 6th grade forum. I love it!

@Raider...you might be correct in saying I wimped out on my 3-way tie at number 2 but I stand by what I posted. One thing you have to understand is that I base my opinions on a variety of sources. I am not actually a coach in this league. For that reason and because I'm not spending my own money for film review, I can ONLY see film of the Edmond Bulldogs games that I already watch in person. In my role as a volunteer action photographer for EYFA, I see almost all of the games of the three 6th grade Edmond teams as well as many of the other grades. Unfortunately, because of the large distance separation between east and west as recently implemented by INFC scheduling, that doesn't help me make judgement calls on most of the east teams. I have to base those assessments on past years' experience with those teams and also from my impressions watching Bixby Red, Bixby Blue, TYAA Blue and Union Silver at the TYAA scrimmages early this year. As a former sports editor, I'm also a numbers cruncher and typically, the numbers don't lie. Another potential source of information is to do a lot of "listening" to what everyone says in the forums which hasn't provided nearly as much to go on this year.

I personally do NOT think there is as much disparity in individual talent and successful teams between the east and the west as some of the biased, east-side opinions on the forums would lead everyone to believe. I think the ratio of really good teams to really bad teams is about the same across the state with the main difference being that there are a hell of a lot more INFC teams in the east (for now). I think the good teams in the west are as good as the good teams in the east while the bad teams in the east are just as bad as the bad teams in the west. (say that sentence really fast ten times)

During the four years I've been involved with INFC, certain teams have traditionally been very good and that can be attributed to one common factor:  good coaching.  The teams that consistently win ALWAYS have excellent coaches. A few in the forums are always talking about how great this kid is on one team or what a stud that team has, but it still boils down to how well the entire team is coached! If all 11 boys on the field aren't working as a team, then one or two outstanding athletes can't carry the game against well coached competition. I've met and talked with a number of the coaches involved with the teams in my top ten and they are all awesome volunteers doing great work with these youth!

Oh really? How many west teams have you watched play? I won't argue that one team is DAMN good...but #2 and #3 are likely to make some waves in the playoffs also.

Saying there is only one in the west would be like me saying that the east only has 3 good teams (top seed in each division).

Besides, I'm still upset with you for standing me up at the Tulsa scrimmages!    ;D

I fail to see how there's any disrespect for Bixby Red here. They're the champs for a reason & until someone stops the Red Machine or scores a point on them, the reigning champs are indeed the unanimous #1.

Everyone else is in their shadow until someone knuckles up & knocks them from the top. Plenty of the other teams are capable, but can they actually execute?? Only time will tell.

The west has 1 good team, and that team is by far far better than the #2 team in the west, stop it!

As I previously mentioned, I like to crunch the numbers. So let me throw a few out there on this particular topic.

6th grade teams in INFC:  48
West/East teams:   10/38
Undefeated teams & one-loss teams:   14 with 3 in the west
That means 30% of all west teams and 29% of all east teams fall in this list

Divisions 1, 2 and AA1 each have 3 teams on the list while Divisions 3 and AA2 have 2 followed by Division 4 with only 1 team on this list.

Now, let's talk strength of schedule for all of these teams. Like the east/west debate, strength of schedule can be extremely subjective and based on preconceived bias. Therefore, I am only going to look at how these 14 teams have performed against teams that currently have a winning record.

Surprisingly, the team that has had the toughest schedule so far is Choctaw Gold (4-1) who has played 80% of their schedule against currently winning teams. Second toughest has been Bixby Red at 60% while Edmond Bulldogs, Union Silver, TYAA Blue, Jenks Silver, Lincoln Christian, Westmoore, Owasso White, Cascia Hall and Berryhill have all played 40% against winning teams. Bixby Blue comes in at 20% while BA Platinum and Hilldale finishes the list with 0% of their opponents so far having a winning schedule.

The data certainly supports my hypothesis about parity across the grade and league. It will be interesting to revisit this topic towards the end of the regular season with the final test coming in the playoffs.

PRESSPass i took your idea a step further to show opponents played average winning percentage and a kind of power ranking. OPPW% is what it is, but the Power Rank takes into account overall wins, overall scoring differential, divisional points / standings and OPPW%. Concerning parity you're right, 6 of the top 20 teams are from the West, with the top 3 teams being Edmond Bulldogs, C. Gold and Westmoore, who will likely make the playoffs in that order. well, short of Westmoore beating Edmond in the last game of the season, or if the Huskies or C. Blue can steal a win from Westmoore.

What's really interesting is seeing Metro's power ranking...even with two losses their rank is on par with a one loss C. Gold and even a 5-0 Jenks Silver. Metro will end a higher seed's run in the playoffs.

@Literary_Cemetary    Bixby Red has gotten lucky twice now.    Their offense is lacking.  QB play is highly questionable.  That Defense is for real, thats the only part that keeps them in the hunt.  too bad for them that 39 can't run that ball.  TYAA and Edmond seem to be the new top dog.   I'm betting that Jenks knuckles up and beats Red.

The Red Machine got more than #39. They have some ballers. Jenks Will have to find a way to put up 2TD to have a chance at pulling the upset.

@presspass, BXB Red wins a overtime game against a suspect S.S. offense by yardage in OT and the talk is how determined and mentally tuff they are. Hot Boys come from behind against a team who is bigger, faster, Give our boys the same credit. Ored left points plays on the field against Blue, they left none on the field against us. And the refs even gave them sum plays. At the end of the day.....USilver over ORed....Just win baby!

@raider   like I said earlier Bixby Red has gotten lucky.   OT with Sand Springs with them having to sub in 50 kids and 13-0 with TYAA Red.   Bixby has ballers #2, #15, #39,  guessing #34 has been hurt but he played some this last weekend. but that Offense is struggling.   i'm betting that if they fall behind that they can't come back.   and what does that do to their confidence if they get scored on.  we'll see how mentally tough they are.

Doesnít matter...no one has scored on them this season and that wonít change this week unless 39 doesnít show up. Iíve watched them both play and Jenks is good but Redís defense is too strong. Early prediction...Red by 20.

I don't think jenks will score but I don't think  red will either. It will come done to yardage in OT. Best case scenario for Jenks Silver.

i agree with that Defense.   Red is by far the best out there.  but they have to get something going on offense.  I can't see your 20 point spread.  i see it as a really close game and if Red wins, its because that D scored.

Raider, I always give U-Silver credit. That's why they have consistently been in my top 4 or 5 this year. Please tell those young men that I offer my congrats on a game well played!

Red is not the best defense. They may have the best defensive player and even that's up for debate. Red scheme allows him to make all the plays. Their line is huge, He is always clean. If you put #40 from tyaa blue in that scheme he"d do the same things maybe even better. Or the kid from Sand Springs he dominate. The best defense out there is TYAA Blue this year. Blue defense can outscore teams offense. Bxb Red defensive can not score.

The refs gave U silver several plays as well.  With that being said I think it was called pretty fairly so to imply the refs are they reason the game was close is not fair to say.  U Silver won because they were better in the 2nd half and in OT.  Period.

R Nation, if you are referencing the scheme that 95% of all youth football teams run, then you are correct.  It may also be that the other 10 (Mostly wrestlers) around #39 are hard nosed disciplined football players that understand gap responsibility.  Pound for pound #51 (wrestler) may be the hardest hitter in the league.  Football is the ultimate team sport, Red plays team football.  Still working on that O with all the new pieces this year, but as @PressPass said ďDefense wins ChampionshipsĒ.  I guess we will see if that is true this year!  Playoffs are going to be fun with the parity of teams at the top.

#39 on Bixby Red is the truth.

Best defense?? I've always thought it was the one that gave up the fewest points. Since this is a youth league and yardage isn't tracked efficiently, unless there's a team out there giving up -1 points, Bixby Red has the best defense.

I guess Jenks Silverís knuckles were tender this week.  They double and triple teamed #39 and managed to get negative yards of offense against the trash defense of BXB Red.

Frontline.  Congrats on the win.  But read my quote again.   Calm the ego down and take notice that I said your D was for real.  Didnít call it trash.     Said your QB was questionable.  He went from what we thought was a good QB to slow, holds the ball way too long,  and is so inaccurate.  Lucky he has really good players surrounding him.   But your D is top notch!  Best in the grade.

My bad!  I thought the knuckle up and beat BXB Red comment meant BXB Red couldnít play good enough D to win.  I guess if you donít turn the score board off on teams you canít play offense.  But thanks for your QB analysis we will work on it.  Best of luck to your squad whoever that may be, although I bet it may be a BXB team and quite possibly Red since you know so much about us.

DeerHunter, just curious but have you ever played QB before? Or football for that matter. Cause honestly you sound jealous or something is off because you seem to make it a point to point out something negative about a 6th grade Bixby Red QB. From what I can tell he is light years ahead of anyone in this grade and probably the next grade. I donít even know the kid but obviously seen him play and Iím starting to think you have something against a 6th grader. Just odd...really odd. Again, Iím guessing youíve never played the position or even football. Anyways hope you feel better. Unbelievable.

The point was....do you not find that odd that this deerhunter is literally making it a point to rag a 6th grader. Lol. Im with Frontline. How obvious is it that itís a Bixby Red parent.  So to your point not light years ahead. Wrong verbiage I used. Just pointing out that heís not ďterrbibleĒ IMO i think heís a pretty good QB for this age. Is that better HoneyBadger?

Like I said I watched him play as well as the Red team and they are really good. That defense flows to the ball. As for the QB heís legit, he knows his receivers and puts the ball where it needs to be for the receivers to make a play on the ball. I have nothing negative to say bout the kid just was pointing out the light year part lol but I also watched this team against sand springs and that was a great game. The QB made a great throw in OT that helped his team seal the win

Sounds like DeerHunter is back pedaling. Def still sounds like a Bixby Red parent.  I believe the QB has been there QB since 1st grade and they literally have lost 2 games in 5.5 years and won 3 championships. So if everything comes down to QB play. He sounds like he is pretty darn good. Listen to yourself DerHunter. You are ragging a QB that has lost 2 games in his entire career. Man this just keeps getting better. LOL. Btw what team are you from DerHunter? Oh wait, you probably donít want to tell. What a joke. DeerHunter weather is cooling down so I hope you are writing from the woods, if so Iím jealous.  Itís 6th Grade so figuring out what Offense will show up each week is interesting.  As to our issues, we do have a few, like all teams do:

1) Managing a 23 player roster and the chemistry challenges that come with inputting new players into an established system.
2) Getting players/parents to understand the importance of getting to practice and games on time.
3) Outside the above mentioned, the biggest issue is probably deciding what to have for dinner after a late practice on a school night.

I guess technically this would be a "week 7" or "week 7.5" poll, but I'm going to put my updates after yesterday's games here in this fun thread:

1. Bixby Red (statement win against Jenks Silver proves they remain at the top until knocked off, they have allowed 0 points)

2. Edmond Bulldogs (highest scoring team in the grade, only other team to allow 0 points)

3. TYAA Blue (statement win over Union Silver and has only allowed 18 points)

4. Union Silver (I was surprised their high-powered offense didn't get on the board against TYAA Blue but I have to credit Blue's defense for that too)

5. Jenks Silver (despite getting dismantled by the defending champs, Silver is still a tough team with some quality wins who will be a handful in the play-offs)

6. Metro Christian (I know they have 2 losses but they were close ones against tough teams, plus, they now stand at the top of Division 4)

7.  Choctaw Gold (very big, fast and aggressive and they continue to roll in the west as they prepare for a deep run in the playoffs)

8. Lincoln Christian (one of only 4 teams out of 48 to still be undefeated)

9. Sand Springs (they continue to mix it up with the top teams in the grade)

10. TIE - (remaining teams I predict will make the A playoffs) Bixby Blue (dropped to third in their division but still has a quality win over Metro as well as one of the strongest RBs in the grade); Owasso White (playing tough but have yet to face the defending champs); Westmoore (only one loss to a tough team but on a collision course with Edmond Bulldogs); Owasso Red (I am making an early prediction that they beat Jenks Maroon in two weeks and grab the last playoff spot in Division 3)

I know there are some other AA teams that deserve some recognition but I don't know enough about them to rank them against each other.

What a week of football.
NEW Rankings IMO.......

1. Bixby BIG Red Machine- After fighting the adversity of the injury bug and a full roster, Red seems to be focused and hungry. Defense is top notch and #39 should be playing on a JV team, Lol! It's just not fair.

2. TYAA Bluedawgs- Big, fast, strong, and good coaching. They are hungry and the most motivated to get that ship this year, but I can't put them at the top just yet. To be the best, you've got to beat the best.

3. Edmond Bulldogs- They continue to dominate in the west. Very well coached and disciplined. Big, fast, and will be interesting to see what they do when they play a top east team.

4. Jenks Silver- Tough loss to the champs but still a top team. We'll see how mentally tough they are and if they can bounce back. They have all the tools to go deep in the playoffs, size, speed, and well disciplined.

5. Union Silver- Good team that needs to focus on blocking and tackling and not so much flexing. Has all the pieces to win a ship but need to put it all together and step up when you play the big boys.

6. Metro- A team that keeps getting better and better. All year long they have been tough mentally and physically. It will be interesting to see them in the playoffs. DO NOT underestimate this team.

7. SandSprings- Are the Sandites gearing up to make another run in the playoffs? Their defense says they are......very tough team with a top notch defense. Must figure out how to make things happen on offense.

8. Bixby Blue- Tough loss to the Sandites but may be what they needed right before the playoffs. Good team with the best RB in the 6th grade but gotta put it all together as a team.

9. Owasso Red- Good team with good coaches. Need to start your playoff run now against Jenks Maroon and don't look back. Use that size and speed and aggressiveness to score and score again.

10. Choctaw Gold- A good team with potential. Size and speed are all good but gotta put it all together and show up when you play the big boys. The east side boys is smash mouth football. Better get ready.
