Title: Division Standings
Post by: PRESSPass on September 13, 2019, 12:00:39 pm
(Week 3) Since nearly everyone begins Division play this weekend (except for Div 1 where every game is division) and since I can't get the division standings to work on the wonderful new INFC website, I thought I would put down what I think are the current Div 1 standings. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong on these and also feel free to post the other division standings after the weekend games.

Division 1          Record      Standings      Points Scored      Points Allowed
Edmond Bulldogs      2-0              16              70                       0
Choctaw Gold           2-0              16               75                       6
Westmoore            2-0                16               62                       7

I'm going to try to upload this updated Division 1 standings list as a photo. I believe that as it stands right now, Edmond Bulldogs and Choctaw Gold are tied for first while Westmoore and the Edmond Huskies are tied for third.

Too impatient to work through the website for the answer so I’ll ask here:  Does non-divisional games factor into who makes playoffs?

I am 99% certain that they do not.

Do any of you know how the Division Standings are calculated? I am a math junkie and I am trying to figure out the standings from a statistics point of view.

HOB...this is from the INFC Rulebook...hope this helps. By marginal points, I believe they the margin of victory.

Article 2: Marginal Points
Marginal Points shall be calculated for each divisional game played throughout the regular season. Post-Season eligibility and seeding shall be de- termined utilizing marginal points. The maximum number of marginal points per game shall be eight points. No team shall add or subtract more than eight points per game.
A. The maximum number of marginal points for any games that went into overtime shall be plus or minus one point.
B. If two teams are tied (on marginal points), the advancer shall be the team that defeated the other during the regular season.
1. If three teams are tied (on marginal points), the advancer shall be determined by coin toss at a time and place determined by the Commissioner.
2. Remaining playoff spots for tied teams, which lose the coin toss, shall be determined by which team defeated the other during the regular season play.

No it really doesn't but thank you. I meant like an actual formula because if you notice standings is each division equals out to 0 if you add them all together. There is formula that deals with total division wins, total losses, and points. I thought I had it.

It should equal 0 because the point awarded to the winning team is the same as awarded to the losing team but negatively. For example if ABC wins by 8 over XYZ then ABC team is awarded 8 point and XYZ is given -8 points. Non Division games do not count towards playoff standings.

Do any of you know how the Division Standings are calculated? I am a math junkie and I am trying to figure out the standings from a statistics point of view.

The marginal points are based on the margin of victory (or loss) in each Divisional Game with no more than 8 points awarded/subtracted for a single game.

So if Team A beats Team B by a score of 8-0, then Team A is awarded 8 marginal points for that game while Team B is awarded -8 marginal points. If Team A wins the game 14-12 over Team B, then Team A gets 2 marginal points while Team B gets -2 marginal points.

The maximum number of marginal points for any games that went into overtime shall be plus or minus one point.

If two division teams have the same number of marginal points at the end of the season, then the winner of head-to-head gets the tie-breaker. If three division teams are tied on marginal points, then it gets a little more complicated with a coin-toss involved in the decision.

I hope this helps.

I will also add that tomorrow is BIG for Division 1. The top 2 teams play each other with the winner likely to finish the season in first place. Teams currently in 3rd and 4th play each other with the strong possibility of the winning team finishing the season in 3rd place for the final play-off spot from Division 1.

What about divisions AA1 and AA2

Do the AA divisions have playoffs the same way as A or does the top team in each division automatically make the championship?

There is a playoff just like A division has No one automatically makes championship in AA I think top 3 or 4 in each AA division make playoffs may not be 100% as to how many from each division make it but I know there is playoffs just like A

Good to know! I will post their standings after today's games.

I pulled this straight from the INFC rule book. With the mentioning of the AA division but no info discerning the difference in playoff format, I would assume it is played out exactly the same.

Well, this is interesting:  Out of the 48 sixth grade teams, everyone has their standing records and points correct except for the Edmond Bulldogs who now have 0 wins, 0 losses, 0 points, etc.   ???

Now 2 teams have all 0's so I guess someone is jacking with the website.

I have been running my own table that all I have to do is insert all the scores from the games and it populates standings for each division and overall.

This is the current standings for everyone. If you want each division I can provide that too.

Ok...I know Division 2 is a bit tough, but really? TYAA Red and McAlester have scored more than 200,000 points and 100,000 points respectively, yet they are still in 4th and 5th place in the division???   ???  ::)

Lol.   Pretty sure Jenks Silver is 6-1, and only given up 40 points on the season, and beat Owasso White which should still leave them in 2nd place currently.  But who’s keeping track?   😂

Are you suggesting that the "official" standings from the "official INFC website might not be 100% accurate????  🏈🤔😎
