Can you please clarify with Refs that there is no maxium distance a corner or safety can play away from the line of scrimmage? I asked this question at the INFC Meetings just to clarify even tho I already knew the answer but, I have been told by other Coaches that some of the refs still don't understand it. Some seem to think that Corners can be no further than 3 yds off the line of scrimmage.
-
Cornerbacks must be no closer than 3 years from an offensive end and must be set and positioned 3 yards back from the line of scrimmage per the rule book.
Could certain see why the officials would think that. I will clarify and see if we can't get the wording changed to no closer than 3 yards back from the line of scrimmage if the INFC agrees.

After further review :) The rule book already says NO CLOSER THAN - I think the confusing part is that is says and must be set and positioned 3 yards back.
I will check on the wording.
-
Thank you sir! I asked at the meeting to clarify but, I appreciate your timely response and handling of this situation.
-
Disagree with both of you. The rulebook has diagrams of how the defense can line up. The CB our not allowed past 4 yards.
-
Where do you even get that at? The CB'S are clearly on the 3 yd line in the diagrams and you can play them back as far as you want. The reason for keeping them back minimum 3 yds in Mighty Mites I would assume is because they can come basically unblocked. The diagram clearly is not going to show a maximum in terms of how far back players should be when the importance is based on minimum distance from the line of scrimmage thus showing the absolute closest that each player can be makes sense. Once again if you could clarify this Bobby I would greatly appreciate it.
-
The diagram is not intended to limit the CB and LB to a maximum of 4 yards deep. It is only intended to show they can no be closer than 3 yards. The diagrams are poorly constructed as well as the wording of the rule. Hopefully Bobby can get the wording changed to make it read the way it is intended.

The diagram shows how the defense has to line up, Per the rule book. It's Mighty mite. I mean what are you worried about the tackle going out for a fade route. Three to four yards is plenty.
-
Lol once again the diagram shows up the minimum distance. A fade route isn't the 1st threat I would think of but, whatever floats your boat. Either way there is NO maximum distance away from the line of scrimmage. However the minimum is 3 & 3. The reason behind why you would want to do it is irrelevant. The only thing relevant here is that it is not prohibited.

Sorry guys I forgot to get a confirmation on this today. I will check into it tomorrow.
I believe the rule was written so that teams couldn't stack the Line of scrimmage but if not I will find out.
-
Clarified with INFC this morning - Mighty Mite Cornerbacks can line up further away from the line of scrimmage than 3 yards and further away from 3 yards outside the offensive end, just not closer.
-
Thanks for the clarification! Although I believe the majority of the refs in mighty mites do not other know this rule.
-
Thank you very much sir.
-
Is there anyway we can get this info out to the officals? They are still not understanding the rule.

Yes, It will be sent out in the memo for next week's games.
