Teams that don't follow the minimum play rules.
« on: September 23, 2021, 02:52:29 pm »
Does anyone know what you need to do about teams that don't observe the minimum play rules? While getting scout film for an upcoming game I noticed that several players were only in the game for 4 or 5 plays. One player was only on kick returns and a single offensive play that was actually a false start. Do I need continuous film of the entire game?

This is a tough one. To challenge a team on the basis of minimum plays not being met, it’s been my experience that the INFC requires you to file a challenge which costs X amount of $, and you must submit continuous un edited film of the entire game in order to prove your point.

Pretty heavy burden honestly

Agree with what Allin said. It's pretty tough to prove. Clips of games won't do it because you don't know what's been clipped out. It has to be continuous film.

All of my film is continuous for this reason.

It would also prove advantageous to film the game from your opponents side and try to film their sideline in the continuous frame.

Honestly though, I’m torn. I’d rather just beat the guys across than win cause of plays, but if they aren’t playing by the same set of rules, that’s not fair either. And most times, the dads and moms of the players not getting the minimum plays are the ones that turn in coaches for pulling that crap. As they most certainly should since it’s not fair to the kiddos.

No way I want to win a game like that. In fact even if I knew a kid on the other side only got in 8 plays I wouldn't even bring it up but when 4 or 5 kids only play 4  or 5 plays that's cheating. Last year the same coach tried to play 3 2 stripers in MM at the same time against us and claimed that he had been doing it all year. He doesn't seem to care about rules. I think most would agree that counting plays is a huge pain in the butt and it looked like this team doesn't worry about it at all.

I've had several games that teams didn't get their plays in but I've never protested it. For me I've never had a problem getting plays in for my kids. I've always had packages for a 7 to 12 play kid to make sure they get in all their plays.  For example 3rd and 4th grade we ran wedge with 7-8 subs only having 3 starters in. 5th and 6th We just did special teams and had a shotgun package with all subs on one side and 3 starters on the line and 1 rb direct snap play. Definitely think some coaches do a very poor job getting there subs in and its not fair to those kids. And when the game is out of hand or scoreboard is shutoff its needs to be all subs in

I have a lot of respect for coaches who find ways to get minimum play kids in the game in such a way that those kids feel that they contributed to the play.

I agree TST. It’s tricky sometimes but can make a difference in a kid. I’ve run a whole offense off of mainly 7 play kids. It was actually quite fun to watch them grow. A couple of them now start for the 7th grade.

This is the best way and how we get our plays and honestly been our more productive offense at times.
