2023 - post season tournament - 2nd grade girls
« on: February 14, 2023, 03:21:33 pm »
2nd grade girls.

To confirm. As it looks now, a team could lose their first round game and then play 7 more games (8 total) to get to the championship, over the course of 10 calendar days. 8 total games when we only played 9 regular season games. Seems like WAY too many games to play for 7-8 year olds. Not to mention the travel time (currently everyone drives to Verdigris) required to play 8 more games on 7 different days.

Each team paid to enter the tournament and now for 2 parents to attend, it's potentially $70-80 in gate fees.

Why wouldn't the top 2-3 teams in each division be split out like the championship brackets for a single elimination tournament? Then the remaining teams do the same thing, a single elimination tournament.

I appreciate the people putting it all together. I can't imagine the work involved to schedule everything. I certainly can't speak for all parents/coaches, but I'm betting many who are 3rd grade and under won't mind a single elimination tournament.

I'm not for sure why they do it they way they do but what I am guessing is.  The playoff tournaments are free to enter. The post-season tournaments cost $100 per team to enter.  They want teams to enter so if they are guaranteed at least 2 games more teams will enter. No one wants to pay a $100 fee to only get one game.  Not sure if that is their reasoning but thats my guess.

The number of games is not really an issue for me. Dragging this out to milk the gate fees from the fans is the biggest issue. When the team count gets to a certain point there should be more gyms scheduled. Period. Move loser bracket games to a second site, etc. Our team won their first game Friday then lost on Saturday. We'll now play 1 game Mon, Wed, Thur and then maybe 2 on Friday. All over 50 minutes away. I scheduled softball tournaments and there absolutely has to be more gyms added. Figure it out IN Youth Sports!

In my grandson's bracket (25 teams) there are 48 games and a possible 49th "If" game. They will not decide their champion until March 4th. Simply because they're doing all of this on 1, yes 1, single court.
