1st scrimmage standouts and notes
« on: August 14, 2021, 04:43:40 pm »
Got the pleasure of watching the first two morning go arounds.

Standouts(there were quite a few and don’t shoot me for spelling, just use the little emoji)

Dax Sullivan- kid is a dude. He will not be denied and he’s a top notch athlete. Can run, catch and make you have an out of body experience after contact.

Jackson Allen- Kid has all the makings of a QB and was dropping dimes everywhere. Bixby Blue just put us all on notice that we need to devote twice as much time to coverage concepts in practice.

Semaj Stanford- Remember his name. It will be called quite frequently all the way through 2027 and I’m sure beyond on Saturdays. His voice got deeper if you know what I mean. Like to see him split out sometimes too and I’m sure that’s in Ed’s bag of tricks he doesn’t use for scrimmages

Kado??? Don’t know his last name so I apologize. Number 13 for Jenks Maroon. What can I say that we don’t know? He’s a beast on both sides of the ball. Slashing runner that likes to finish his runs being the hammer not the nail. Excellent tackler. The jet took the weekend off to finish recovering and Kado shouldered the load beautifully.

Carter Howell- #50 for BA Silver. Birthdate 06-18-09. Yea he just turned 12. Yes he can drive and has to shave twice a day to get rid of his 5-o clock shadow. Last part was probably a little exaggerated. Kid was a nightmare for opposing lineman today. Wrecking plays left and right making OC and OL coaches lose their minds. You just account for him on every play.

Octavian- BA silver had two new backs today that both were standouts, but Octavian was the cream of the crop. He was his usually speedy self on O, along with a power side I hadn’t seen before. He punished a few tacklers at the end of his runs instead of taking the sideline, that is only when he wasn’t trotting in the EZ. Kid was a blanket at safety as well with a few dazzle dazzle big hits.

Bixby Red- Defense was strong and the O was coming along. I don’t think they were showing much on purpose. Stayed pretty vanilla. As did most honestly
Union Black- loaded with athletes. Two incredible backs make them hard to defend.
Owasso Silver- Got some good looks at what is basically a brand new team combined of two. Looked like they were working kids out in multiple spots but the coaches should have a better idea of who is playing where. They came alive on D in their second session.
BA Black- They may have lost a couple of kids but all in all they were just as fearsome as years last. Number 15 stood out to me as an impressive back. Their line is still big and bad. Will certainly be in the playoffs come November.

My biggest takeaway and most improved team was the Gee. The coach on the field absolutely had those boys playing physical football, but most of all he had them playing as a team. On offense and defense. I was impressed. They have always had the athletes, so add in a coach that gets them organized and they could make some noise this season. They certainly have the size and the speed.

Jenks Maroon lineman I think #60... I hope he’s alright and whatever that injury was that he is back on the field ASAP.

All just my opinion. Good luck to everyone this season. Hope everyone is healthy come Monday.

It really was a great morning for some football. Our boys came out flat, but steadily improved throughout our sessions. JM is exactly as advertised BTW. And #60 is definitely in our prayers. I’m wishing him a speedy recovery.

I don’t post much on here but I feel compelled to give a huge shout out to Owasso White. They were great last year but are on another level this year with added size/speed. They seem very well coached, organized, and ready to win a championship. I’d put them as an easy preseason #1.

From the late scrimmages,

Owasso White - I thought they would be really good, turns out they are even better than I thought. Great size, great athletes, great coaching, hyper physical. Safe to say they  dominated the scrimmages…

Jenks Black - Didn’t really see their defense accept for a little against O-White, but their offense looked good. Several really good looking athletes, also a lot of speed. Mav’s comments are showing to be accurate, this is a team that has consistently improved year after year. I think they will certainly be in the playoff conversation.

Union Silver - Loaded with athletes, and they fly around. #0 is a beast running the ball. They’ve also got some size. I think they will be a tough out for everyone, and likely competing for a playoff spot.

Bixby White - New team I think, that had some talent. Couple kids that ran hard, and the QB has a nice arm. Coaches seemed like good guys. I know they will get better every week, and be a solid team.

BA Platinum - We have a long way to go and a short time to get there….

Wish I could add some inflammatory chatter and opinion to this past weeks scrimmages but I had to work 1st grade MM scrimmages 😞. 1 in 5 parents told me they didn’t know they had to pay for scrimmages which I guess is understandable if this is their first year.  4 of 5 of those that didn’t know they had to pay didn’t have cash. Go figure…. I may need to invest in a portable ATM. LOL.  It’s borderline painful watching 8 man MM after being so far removed from it. Claremore might have more 2 stripers on their team than possible to legally play in a single game. Those kids could have played on a few Jenks 4th and 5th grade O-lines!  Apparently there will be no preview to the big OWhite Maroon game before we meet up during the season. From the sound of it we are playing the Varsity team. 😳. See y’all this Saturday at the middle school.

Late Scrimmages last week

Jenks Black We ran O against them but I watched them on our break run their Offense. QB #2- Kid throws a pretty ball and he's got weapons that can catch.  Pretty athletic out of the backfield as well.  #22 runs hard and with maximum quickness.  Honestly we wanted to run some D against them after the scrimmages were over cause they seemed to be firing on all cylinders offensively.  Should be able to match up well with quite a few teams this season and could certainly be in the playoff conversation.

BA Platinum- Missing the three main ball carriers and what I assume would also be starters on D, they made the best of it.  Was hoping to get to see Cowboy in action as I heard he has started to fill out into a grown man.  Jury is out on this one.  I'm betting Ronnie will have them rolling in time for week 1.

Bixby White- New team with a ton of new kids.  We ran some D against them.  They look to be sorting out the who's, what's, when's and where's so I would withhold judgement.  They certainly have athletes, but are lacking in size across the line. Another couple weeks of practice and hopefully they get sorted.

Union Silver- Quite a few athletes, though it seemed like they didn't have all their players with them.  Maybe I missed something.  We ran O so I tend to get tunnel vision during those sets. #17 will be a player for them.  It was fun

Owasso White- Nothing to see here... Pretty Vanilla
