******* WATER!!! ********
« on: August 15, 2020, 03:56:05 pm »
I get that some people are terrified beyond belief of this stupid virus, but we have got to figure out a compromise on this water situation for clubs that have rules like "No big water jugs" or "No refilling of water bottles". Either we need to allow the 5 gallon jugs in or we have need to start allowing teams to wheel in ice chests full of individual bottles of water. It is the dumbest damn thing I have ever seen to set precautionary safety measures all the while creating an even bigger safety hazard in the process. 1 gallon water jugs just aren't enough on a day like today. You can assign 1 coach to be the refill guy or whatever you would like, but we need to do something.

I was at Claremore Sequoyah and later Ft Gibson, but I am going off of the Covid guidelines that some clubs have put out. Both places we went were very hospitable, but the guidelines if followed will prevent this from happening is my point. I know several teams that did not have extra water due to guidelines that were sent out.

Shaffer we have to follow the rules put forth by our schools if we want to use their facilities. We didn’t police everyone on these rules, but it is what it is.

Extra water bottles were available to all the kids and coaches at no charge. We had an iced down container of water bottles at the 50 yard line available for all the kids and coaches.

We’re sorry if it caused any inconvenience.

We just want to play football......

Forrest as I said Ft Gibson was hospitable. I had already talked to Josh and hell everyone ended up bringing in ice chests anyways. The fact is regardless of who is following what policy, limitations on access to water should never be one of them. We want to play football too, but you can't play football with players falling out from heat exertion. My post wasn't about Ft Gibson, but anyone who follows these policies in general. The sole reason for my post was to bring light to a situation that I feel needs universally addressed in some capacity.  Whether that be for us to all agree to allow teams to bring in ice chests with individual water bottles or to allow teams to bring in -gallon jugs so long as an adult is refilling individually assigned water bottles or if someone else has a better idea that is fine as well, but there are to many variables that are out there to have restrictions that can in any way limit access to water. Our HS's are not out there playing football games in the hottest parts of the day typically so I am just hopeful that we can all find a happy median that could make both sides of the argument happy.

Jack as I said we have to follow the guidelines put forth by our schools in order to use their facilities. Whether or not we agree on them or not. As I stated we didn’t police them and nobody “fell” out as far as I know.

Lol Hunter I can't break this down any more than I already have. This isn't a personal attack on any club. You keep trying to make this about Ft Gibson and I have already said we had no issues at Ft Gibson. If you didn't police anyone or enforce anything then I am not talking to you. I am talking to any club that is going to have a policy that limits access to water and I am asking it as a question in general what we can do to address the issue. If a club is going to enforce a policy that says a team cannot bring in 5 gallon jugs of water to refill individual bottles in order to prevent spread of this cap then what can we do to both ensure our players and coaches have access to plenty of water while on the field? Then I ask is it possible that we as adults could tell clubs that their teams could bring ice chests full of individual bottles of water in place of 5 gallon jugs? If someone else has a better suggestion then great. I just want to make sure that where ever anyone goes that we aren't limiting access to water. Furthermore if clubs are going to put out Covid guidelines and not actually enforce them I have no issues with that either, but if a club is going to do that a courtesy call would alleviate any issues. I know that I have made sure to get each clubs policy out to my coaches and that is what we are going to try to follow unless we are told otherwise. That's it plain and simple.
