The west has 1 good team, and that team is by far far better than the #2 team in the west, stop it!
As I previously mentioned, I like to crunch the numbers. So let me throw a few out there on this particular topic.
6th grade teams in INFC: 48
West/East teams: 10/38
Undefeated teams & one-loss teams: 14 with 3 in the west
That means 30% of all west teams and 29% of all east teams fall in this list
Divisions 1, 2 and AA1 each have 3 teams on the list while Divisions 3 and AA2 have 2 followed by Division 4 with only 1 team on this list.
Now, let's talk strength of schedule for all of these teams. Like the east/west debate, strength of schedule can be extremely subjective and based on preconceived bias. Therefore, I am only going to look at how these 14 teams have performed against teams that currently have a winning record.
Surprisingly, the team that has had the toughest schedule so far is
Choctaw Gold (4-1) who has played 80% of their schedule against currently winning teams. Second toughest has been
Bixby Red at 60% while
Edmond Bulldogs, Union Silver, TYAA Blue, Jenks Silver, Lincoln Christian, Westmoore, Owasso White, Cascia Hall and Berryhill have all played 40% against winning teams.
Bixby Blue comes in at 20% while
BA Platinum and Hilldale finishes the list with 0% of their opponents so far having a winning schedule.
The data certainly supports my hypothesis about parity across the grade and league. It will be interesting to revisit this topic towards the end of the regular season with the final test coming in the playoffs.
