Scrimmages
« on: August 12, 2018, 09:33:59 am »
This will be a fun season, I’m excited and can’t wait to see more football. Scrimmages were fun to be at watching everyone and there is a lot of talent out there. Seems to be a lot of position changes and school changes. The first scrimmages I don’t want to critic anyone too much because everyone has stuff they’re still working out and everyone is trying kids in different spots and what not. So really I take it For What it is and that’s scrimmages to get better after on,y a couple weeks of practice. I sure wouldn’t be coming in here and saying this season is about to get shook up 😂🤣😂

Union Black - They looked really good out on the field, they had a nice big running back who could fly down the field and a little shifty WR that can catch in traffic, drop the hips, and maneuver around until he finds the end zone. He had a Bulldogs jersey on and I don’t remember him playing for them, but he did a damn good job playing last night. This team will be tough and Coach K has them going on both sides of the ball last night.

Jenks White - Jenks White has a big big boy, maybe 5’11 and 250, But I didn’t see him out there too much so I can only assume it must be his first year or he is just simply not ready yet for their scheme, but he is a big boy. Of course #44 and #34 looked good. #2 was playing QB instead of #1, not sure if they were trying to get a different look or what, but he looked good running the ball and throwing. Once they make their QB/WR timing then they will be really special. Coached well and fun to watch. See you guys at Catoosa August 25th.

Owasso White - Had a fast RB, but I didn’t get to see a lot of this team. Just remember seeing one of their RBs running down the sideline on Union Black.

Metro - Metro had one of the best all around players I have seen in this grade. #3 was fast and big. He was all over the field on both sides of the ball. I definitely say he will give any team they play problems all game long, the kid is a natural.

Bixby Blue - They were small and looked like the same team from every year, but as we all know they can play ball. Their line may not be massive, but they were holding their blocks and penetrating the Olines. Didn’t get to see a whole lot of this team but from what I did see they looked well coached as always.

BA Black - Definitely lost Wallace and they definitely had backs step up, but as we all know Wallace is an athlete and was one of the best Athletes in this grade. I don’t see him just being replaced like that, but we will see. Like everyone says, it’s BA someone will take the place..........This may be true, but I already know how hard this is to do. We have been developing new backs or backs with low reps almost every year since 2nd grade and this is the first year we’re not. It’s not easy to teach a running back how to read holes and get a feel for the speed of the game. Takes about 2 seasons and don’t expect anything until the 3rd, but that’s new kids.

Skiatook - Seemed to have a good defense as usual. Nice all around team, just lack some speed on the edges is all.

Casia Hall - Good group of boys, like to throw the ball around and have a nice shifty RB.

Glenpool - Glenpool have some big boys up front, they’re a tough group and play smash mouth football. I like this team and saw them penetrating and getting to the ball.

Coweta - Love the jersey’s........team definitely has some athletes and they run a nice stack defense. Just lack the speed on the edges. First scrimmages so not a lot to go in. Everyone is still fixing lots of minor stuff.

Broken Arrow Silver - Earnhardt looked really good and Barnett as well. Both are amazing athletes and have a great understanding of the game and a natural feel for it. They also have a good receiver that can catch very well. They are a tough team and I don’t think anyone was sleeping on them so whoever feels they were being disrespected then maybe you are getting misinformed.

Catoosa - I have heard several times, Catoosa only has 2 big linemen and that’s it. That’s great if that’s what you truly believe. Sure makes my job easier. Offensively I thought we did good for our first scrimmages just need to Correct a few things and keep getting reps in to some of the new players. Defensively I thought my boys played tough and were swarming to the ball well. Only time I really remember us even letting up much was when we were rotating new kids in to get more reps, but who knows. Just what I see......of course we have stuff to work on Because it’s first scrimmages, I wouldn’t say there was a team out there that was “all that” at the first scrimmages  and I never knew Catoosa’s defense had a reputation of being “all that” but even though your remark was a sour puss remark I’ll go ahead and take that as a compliment. I would love for teams to sleep on us, but hey maybe that’s why you signed up under the name of someone’s girl instead of your own.......what team exactly are you with again?

Scrimmages were great, can’t wait to see how far everyone comes along from the first set to the second set. There always seem to be a good jump for a few teams....good luck everyone. This will be Catoosa’s last year then they go to School Ball so I’ll definitely miss it all.

Owasso white I was impressed with their defense. They flow to the ball really well, had a few times where they got out of position but it’s the first scrimmage.

Jenks White- really has a huge kid but definitely could tell it’s his first year. Once he figures out that he can dominate with his size and strength and possibly come off the ball faster that will be a nice piece. There backs look really good #21 always a threat when ball is in his hand, #2 looked really good at QB and #5 looked really good as well.

Union black- has a tall skinny kid who wore like a all red jersey. That kid can flat out ball, they line him up all over the field so you definitely have to keep in mind where he’s at. QB did good on bootleg pass to the flat, RB are shifty, OLine looks smaller than last season. But this team has always been good with speed.

Bixby Blue they still stick to what they are known for. Running up the middle with power runs, quick passes to the slot WR, and just being a very well coach team. I expect this team to either finish 1 or 2 in that division.

Checotah heard they had a good first scrimmage I’m happy for them. They have a old Hitsquad player on that team so you know I’m going to cheer for them.

Good job guys!

JR. We all know you have 5 linemen i think what everyone is saying is that 3 are strong and then there are 2 that i think are beasts!!   However i agree with you about the newbie just starting trouble

I only caught a brief look

Hilldale:  big kids up front. Honey badger is probably already mid season recruiting some of those lineman.

Checotah:  they have some speed!  Linemen fired off and qb looks composed!  Aggressive. I like those players!

Owasso Black:  smaller group on the line but i will tell you several gave it their all and kept coming. Number 72 i believe stuck out he was playing severa spots and you had to account for him. Played hard.

South tulsa:  new team you could tell have several players that have size but need more time to get the line together. They do have some speed at the safety position and he was flying around the ball

Union red:  they have some size abs i thought i saw some more new players that didn’t play much with even more size. They have some speed but appear to be working with a lot of newer players on the line. Viral this team will be one that will come together and cause some close games and get some upsets. Lots of talent.

Bixby platinum:  still trying to put it together. We definitely have a long ways to go but working hard each day.

I was talking in general, we have some talented kids, not just 2 linemen that are talented in the team, but it wasn’t a response to what you said. Just a response to what has been said off the forums 2-3 Times.

How did everyone else look the first week? Sapulpa, Jenks Silver, Sequoyah, Bixby Red.....etc

Coach Griffin-
Thanks for the compliment about our group upfront and about my son. You guys were a handful and gave us a wake-up call!!!
