Playoffs Final Four
« on: November 08, 2020, 09:12:49 pm »
Congrats to these four teams left in the dance.  They have all earned a seat at the table and everyone has the ability to win the ship.  Should be some outstanding games!

Lincoln Christian Bulldogs @ Norman Timberwolves- LC has it all.  Run game check. Passing game check. Smothering Defense Check. Adept onside kick game check.  Maybe the only thing they don't do perfect is kick PAT's and they can still do that at better than a 50% clip.  Players all over the dang place. #44.  Just solid at all positions.  Extremely well coached and well prepared.  Norman is essentially their mirror in the west.  Different offensive styles sure, but loaded with talent just the same.  The misdirection of that single wing hybrid is pretty much impossible to find the key.  It's deception is as good as it is powerful.  And they have the horses to run it flawlessly with a ton of speed. Haven't seen the passing game on full display cause they are always up by 20 in the first half. Defensively have they even been scored on? And that may bring me to the crux of the situation.  Have they seen a team like LC this season(NO), and are they ready for the dogfight they will be in(Yet to be seen).

IF #3 for LC was healthy, I would pick them and not think twice.  That was such an unfortunate injury for a great kid, and he was such a great player on offense, that you don't even realize how much he dominated at LB! Only kid I've seen all year go straight up pound for pound with MAYO and come back for more. Because LC doesn't have that weapon(and don't think I don't respect them cause 23, 17, 14, 6 are all weapons), and because they have to travel to Norman where the refs will be questionable at best(sorry alexander those refs out west must use a different rulebook), well I'm going with the Twolves in a squeaker, 16-14.  I mean I don't even know.  Might change my pick.  That's my gut feeling though.

Glenpool Warriors @ Jenks Maroon Trojans- Glenpool and the professor.  This league won't be the same without them next season.  Begins and ends with #2.  MAYO has a running style I haven't seen matched in the league.  There are some that come close, but hes at the top. Power and speed and a motor that won't quit.  Kid has one speed and its W. F. O.  Now the rest of the warrior squad aren't to be overlooked.  #35 or as I affectionately refer to him, Tape measure, is a stud in his own right.  Can sling a dang pretty ball anywhere on the field with a flick of the wrist.  Will take it to you on the ground too and lower his shoulder when needed.  He can dish it to a plethora of capable WR and if the opponent isn't triple covering MAYO he can just send it his way.  On D they are relentless and I don't care where you run, #2 can track it down.

Jenks Maroon has a couple of studs in their own right, and as they go the entire wolfpack goes.  #5 the Jet Peterson is speed personified.  Sometimes I check the film to see if somebody sped up the frame rate watching him run.  Do not underestimate this kids ability to hit the edge at full speed and turn it up north.  Like BO Jackson on tecmo super bowl.  Cheat code speed. #13 is the thunder in this thunder and lightning duo.  His speed is top notch as well, and he could carry the load on any team as the bell cow back.  Coming out of the backfield, he's the cog in the wheel that keeps it turning.  Sliding under center when needed, leading the way to clear a crease for the Jet, that wishbone is simple but deadly.  Don't underestimate it. Overall on D these guys have their kids in all the right spots.  They took away what we normally love to do, and although we adjusted, obviously it wasn't enough.  Hats off to them.  And they've shown it in many of the games I have seen this year.  They do their homework and set the D up for maximum success.

That brings me to the conclusion.  Jenks can stop the run, but can they stop a back like #2? Can Glenpool contain the speed of the Jet? Can Jenks contain the passing game if they sell out to stop MAYO? I don't think they can.  I'm taking Glenpool in a good one, 27- 22

Good luck to all! EPO and my opinion only!

Tonight’s game was amazing! Hats of to jenks Marron and there staff. I wish them the best moving forward and can’t wait to see some of those guys on Friday. 99 out of 100 that game goes to jenks with 5 mins left down 22-7 with no kicker. Our kids never gave up!!!  They had the ball with 5 mins left on our side of the 50. The fumble on handoff exchange and we house it! We get the onside kick and score in 3 plays! We kick off and force a strip and recover it! Go score in 3 plays again. Then we hold them and take a final knee. In championship moments you need things to go your way and they did!!  This game ranks #1 for me ever in coaching youth football. I’d like to thank all the coaches in this grade and all the time they put in to make these kids love the game. In 4 years in 11 man football we will have a different champion in every year just shows how much talent is in this grade. Now it’s time for the rematch with LC. Can’t wait!!
