Playoffs Injustices
« on: October 27, 2019, 02:28:42 pm »
Something should be done about how we select playoff teams. We have teams with twice as many wins as some of the teams in the playoffs who wont get to go. Why cant we just put the best teams in taking into account wins, losses, points scored, points against, and strength of schedule?

There should be a wildcard spot. The teams with the most wins and highest points for/allowed ratio gets to play for the spot There has to be a better way of balancing the divisions out. Some really good teams are missing the playoffs.

Really shocked that Jenks white and Coweta Black are in the pst with us, BA White. Among others

Well and honestly it's not fair to the teams that are in the PST that have to play teams that should be in the playoffs. Gives teams in the playoffs easy wins and gives teams in PST tough games. Goes against what you should be trying to accomplish when it comes to post season tournaments.

Which teams are in with half as many wins as a team not included?

I'm a fan of B.A. White just to throw that out first. I saw B.A. Platinum post that Union Silver won against B.A. Silver which would give B.A. Silver 3 wins. Im a little confused because it says B.A. silver won that game on the schedule. We went 6-3 losing to Jenks Maroon(without our starting quarterback) not saying we would've won that game but taking away the leader of your offense is tough to overcome, lost by 1 point to Glenpool(great team, great coaching) in the red zone when we ran out of time and lost by 6 to Owasso White. These are all teams that nearly all of you have in your top 10. A lot of playoff teams have what I would consider weak schedules. Before anyone gets offended I support all B.A. teams and all the teams really I just feel like the best teams should be in the playoffs. Period. Strength of schedule should come into play. Theres always room for improvement in the way things are done and the way teams are selected. We'll lick our wounds and do our best in the PST.

My point is B.A. White deserves to be in the playoffs. The fact that teams like our and schedules like ours are left out of the playoffs isn't right. Theres always room for improvement in the way we do things. We should ALL want the best teams in the playoffs.

Definitely a fair assessment, but it is what it is.. The last two PST winners wound up making the playoffs the following season. Go win that thing!

I'm not trying to change things for this season. Just saying maybe INFC should look at making some changes for the future. We all want the best teams in the playoffs. Just because "it is what it is" doesn't mean it couldn't be better and more fair. I hope INFC makse some changes in the teams are selected.

Again, fair assessment! But let's debate. I don't see any issue with the playoff teams other than those two spots from division 2. But that's ONLY bc there shouldn't have been 2 west divisions. Having 36 teams made it super easy for a 4 divisions of 9 set up, instead of spreading it out to 5 divisions. 3 westside teams would've had to bite the bullet in order for that to happen though. What do you suggest?

Seeding divisions maybe? Division 5 teams fighting for the spot in the playoffs had losing records. The extra division in the west. Making a spot in the playoffs for the pst winner? I can think of several. Do you have any suggestions? I know you have been around this league for a long time.

Like I said above take wins, losses, points for, points against, and strength of schedule. Doesnt matter if your east or west. Or shouldn't any way. Strength of schedule should be easy to figure out. Do you think B.A. White is better than any of the teams in the playoffs? If not then keep it the way it is. Most of the teams belong in the playoffs.

Most of the teams in the playoffs belong in the playoffs is what I meant to say. I'm curious if you have any suggestions that could make this process better? Like Tigermom said you have teams with losing records fighting for a playoff spot while another team is out after losing to top 8 teams.

They didn't have losing records though? Going into the game U-Silver was 4-2, and BA Silver was 3-3. BA winning made it a tie at 4-3, giving them the H2H. That's a winning record. There's been many 4-3 teams who have made the playoffs. Now Div 1 and 2 only having 6 teams, makes the path and chances of getting in way easier!! That's what needs fixed! And I thought the divisions were/are seeded every year after 3rd grade? Am I wrong?
