Curtdogg, I appreciate your never-ending interest in the Big Red Machine. You must know that some of you boys plan to make the transition over to Owasso in the coming years. That might explain why you and others have such a keen interest in this team. Booker T. can’t compete with Owasso in basketball or football these days, so it’s a no-brainer decision if the boys want to develop under good coaching to play at the next level. I won’t even mention Owasso’s baseball program.
You couldn’t have drawn up a worse script for O-Red last week. Broken collar bones, broken wrists, strep throat, flu, all hit our team within about a 48 hour period of time leading up to the game. Blocking assignments were missed left and right with kids doing their best to fill in a position they hadn’t had many reps at. To beat a team like Hilldale and the other top teams in our grade, we can’t be a half strength like we were last week.
It’s a thing of beauty when the Big Red machine is healthy because these boys all compliment each other’s skill sets so well. I suppose our biggest weakness is the fact that we have so many players who are irreplaceable, and I’m just fine with that. I suppose us coaches could dumb down our offense to make it more resilient to injuries, but that would be a disservice to these boys since they’re smart and athletic enough to run the same offensive schemes you see on TV. Might also be the reason so many of the TYAA boys have reached out to us with interest in Owasso too.
Shout out to the Hilldale coaches. They’re some of the classiest dudes around with a special group of boys out there. I hope we get a chance to meetup again soon.
