Week 1 Pick'em!
« on: August 25, 2021, 04:47:53 pm »
Sorry I'm late to the party. Have had a lot going on lately, but here they are. Looking forward to a fun season and I'm so glad football is finally here. Good luck everyone this weekend and stay safe and Hydrated.

A lot of this is Gut feeling since it's 3rd grade ball and almost every team will have something that has separated them from last years team. Write ups will get better as we all learn more about the teams going forward in the season. I missed the first 2 scrimmages due to kids having covid and was only able to make it to the TYAA Scrimmages.

Coweta White @ Broken Arrow Silver - Coweta White didn't win a game last year. Broken Arrow Silver didn't play a game last year......Toss up, going with the new Team. BA Silver

Berryhill @ Lincoln Christian - Berryhill finished with a 4-4 Record last year on one team and a 0-7 record on the other. Berryhill Gold last year was a god team though, they just had a tough schedule. Lincoln Christian was a really good team. I haven't had the chance to see either team yet so going in blindly Lincoln Christian has been more consistent and has played some good ball these last couple years. Lincoln Christian

Sand Springs @ Jenks Silver - Sand Springs is a very talented team, but with the numbers they're dealing with it will be very hard to compete like they have the last couple years. Very good coaching, I just think the clock ticks too fast in 3rd Grade Ball and getting those 12 plays in for everyone will be tough. When you have to keep up with a game inside of a game it makes it difficult. Jenks was a 500 team last year, not sure what they have added or taken away from their team, but Jenks is Jenks. Taking Sandites in this one, they still put up 30. Sand Springs

Yukon @ Skiatook - Yukon goes from 2 Teams to 1 Team and I believe this team will be better for it. The talent is there now as long as they come together. Skiatook loses a great coach and great player. This is a big game for them to set the tone going forward. I still like this team as they have talent all over the field still. I think they come together and get the W here. Skiatook

Edmond @ Bixby Blue - Edmond is still looking for last years win. Unfortunately, they won't find it this week, but to be fair anyone playing Bixby Blue this week would have went away with a loss. They're loaded, picked up #7 from BA White, lost a little fat, and back stronger than last year. Bixby Blue wins BIG. Bixby Blue

Owasso Red @ Catoosa - I know those Rams will be ready to play the Indians for the 3rd time in 3 seasons. We had our first Team practice Monday where we installed our first Offensive Play, Defensive Play, Kickoff, and Kickoff Return. COVID had hit our team hard at the beginning causing several kids to Quarantine for 2 Weeks. Unfortunately, we haven't had any scrimmages and we're way behind as far as practicing goes. Nevertheless, we're up to the Challenge and ready to play some ball. We may not line up right, but we will be ready to play  ;D Catoosa

Stillwater @ TYAA Red - Stillwater still looking for last years win as well. I was able to get out and watch the scrimmages at BTW HS last weekend. TYAA Red is the team to beat outside of Bixby Blue. Little Dcaine is a stud, he gets off the ball fast and keeps his eyes on the ball. The kid is a great D-Lineman and will be in everyone's backfield. #12 is a stud as well, he was going sideline to sideline making plays. Overall they have a lot of talent; those additions from TYAA White were nice. TYAA Red

Verdigris @ Hilldale - Schafer is a hell of a coach and I think people will see more than ever this year. He won't have the most talented or most athletic team on the field always, but he will utilize what he has very well. I have watched his teams over the years from an Eagle view, don't underestimate him. With that said, I haven't had the chance to see his team this year yet, but I have heard great things. Especially from the QB position. Verdigris has a lot of question marks around them coming off a 500 season. I'll stay reserved until I learn more about them. Hilldale

Westmoore @ Owasso Black - Owasso Black had a great pick up this year. He is about 5'10" and 225 lbs. With an INFC Championship under his belt. They have a great coach coming in and I expect a very well coached team that will come out and compete with anyone they line up against. Look forward to seeing this team surprise a few people this year. Westmoore on the other hand, I don't think either of there teams last year Won a game. Owasso Black

TYAA Blue @ Wagoner - I also got to see the Blue Dawgs get after it last week. Do I think they're the best TYAA Team this year? No, but if your marking them off already then your highly mistaken and easily forgetting who they are. I saw speed, power, and some great players on both sides of the ball. Yeah they have a little to clean up and a few adjustments to make to help them transition to 11 man ball, but once they adjust and settle in then everyones questions will be answered. Wagoner. They hardly posted scores and made me really use my connections to get outcomes of games last year. TYAA Blue is too much for them. TYAA Blue

Jenks Maroon @ Sapulpa - Did everyone forget about Sapulpa? No clue to what they look like this year, but I always thought once 11 Man came around then they would be a better team as they have the RB's and the Lineman to compete. Always seemed like they had a roster full to take care o in the past. Jenks Maroon or Jenks Silver the better team this year......We will see. Sapulpa

Broken Arrow White @ Fort Gibson - Last year this would have been a GOTW, but this year BA White has question marks everywhere. I know of a QB and RB they lost, but I don't know if they picked up anymore and I'm just looking forward to seeing how they bounce back after that this year. Fort Gibson, I know they have an excellent coach and an Excellent QB that can carry the team on both sides of the ball if need be. They also have other players that are good players as well, but they are in the shadows so much no one knows of them. Fort Gibson

Muskogee @ Claremore - Claremore will be a tough team after they combined what they had last year. Also, coach Green will have them fired up and ready as well. Muskogee is really talented, but the biggest question is how are they going to manage the game switching so many kids in and out of the game the whole time trying to get plays for kids? They have a lot of kids that I believe will make it tough for them to compete. Was it 26-28? something like that. Still taking Muskogee in this one as I haven't had the chance to see this Claremore Team and although Muskogee has a lot of players, they also have a lot of talented kids as well. Muskogee

Broken Arrow Black @ Bartlesville White - Bartlesville surprised a few teams last year. Usually means they picked up some talent, but where did that talent go? Blue or White? BA Black has a sideline to sideline LB and a RB that can break away in open field. There whole team plays hard and I think this year they start to come together. Looking forward to week 2 Match up with them. BA Black

Bartlesville Blue @ Collinsville - Toss up game, Bartlesville splits their team and Collinsville comes together. Collinsville

McAlester @ Coweta Black - First year for McAlester so no idea. Coweta Black had a couple RB's from last year that were pretty good, I'll stick to the team we know better. Coweta Black

Broken Arrow Gold @ Choctaw Blue - Heard both Teams are better than last year. BA Gold picked up some players and coaches and I guess you can say the same for Choctaw Blue as well. 3rd Grade is a redraft year so both teams I'm sure will be full of surprises. I like Gold here from what I have heard about them, but I can't ignore what Choctaw is doing on that side of the state. Going with #16 as well. Choctaw Blue

Union @ Piedmont - Piedmont had a nice little run last year and so did Union, but Union lost Mello. He was a big time difference maker, now #9 is really going to have to step up and make those plays for Union. #15 is still there as well so I think they will be ok, but that is a big loss losing their star player and I see them dropping a couple games that they wouldn't have last year. How good is the new running back they got? Heard he has wheels and can move, but it's also his first year so we will see. Union

Bixby Red @ Norman - Norman struggled a little in the West last year. Always a middle of the pack team, but I would be curious to see where they stand this year. Bixby Red has always had good coaching. They seem to care and work them boys to get better. I just don't know if they have the talent. We know where that talent is, but this will be a good game for them to make a little noise as it's an opportunity for them to get a W. Norman

Glenpool @ Choctaw Gold - Talking about another loaded team, how about this Glenpool Team? After watching them last weekend, they're a top 5 Team for sure. Possibly, top 3. They will push to get in that championship game this year and by the end of the season may even be a favorite to be in the game. Lots of moving parts over there, going to be a fun team to watch. Great Coaches, Kids, and Playmakers. Glenpool

DIV 1

BA SILVER vs COWETA WHITE - Having scrimmaged both of these teams I think Silver has a lot more speed and Coweta will have a tough time containing the outside on this team.

LINCOLN vs BERRYHILL - I haven't seen Berryhill this year, but I have seen Lincoln this year and played them in the playoffs last year. If Berryhill doesn't have a smart corner and safety its going to be a long day for them. That little RPO play they have will give a lot of teams some fits and knowing their coach we just seen a page out of that playbook he has.  My 6th grade team(last year) got the pleasure of scrimmaging his 5th grade team and I can tell you, that offense is hard to defend.

JENKS SILVER vs SAND SPRINGS- We scrimmaged silver and played Sand Springs last year. I believe Sand Springs still has the players and coaching to be really good this year.

SKIATOOK vs  YUKON - Don't know either team so just taking a guess

DIVISION 2

BIXBY BLUE vs EDMOND- All I can say is Blue is who we thought they were x 10. They're on a whole other level. At this point in the season I believe there is Bixby Blue at the top and about 3-4 other teams battling for 2nd. (I'll throw in a disclaimer here, I haven't seen any TYAA teams or Glenpool this year so my opinion may change after a few weeks). This is by far one of the most competitive grades I've been a part of. II see a lot of good football in the years to come.

CATOOSA vs OWASSO RED- I was thinking Catoosa here but then I read Strat's post about not being able to practice, and I know how hard it is to get an offense clicking. We did scrimmage O-Red and they are a physical team, I didn't get to see there offense much but they will come up and hit you on D. Still taking Catoosa here in a close one.

TYAA RED vs STILLWATER- TYAA Red is one of those teams I mentioned above that is battling for that next spot behind B-Blue. I do believe they are the closest team at this point to B-Blue and who knows they may be better, I haven't laid eyes on them yet this season. Its going to be a long drive back to Stillwater. Red runs wild in this one.

HILLDALE vs VERDIGRIS- I've seen Hilldale in action, got a nephew over there on that team. I will say this about Shaffers teams(we've played a few times), they will come hit you in the mouth. I'm pulling for family on this one.

DIVISION 3

OWASSO BLACK vs WESTMOORE- Owasso Black looked pretty good in the scrimmages, haven't seen Westmoore so I'm just going to go with the Rams.

WAGONER vs TYAA BLUE- If this was high school Condict would have these boys hammering nails with there bare hands and being mean to puppies(it's a joke). But it's not high school yet... Blue wins big here

SAPULPA vs JENKS MAROON- Don't know anything about Maroon here. I do know Sapulpa has a tough little team. I'll go with Sapulpa.

FORT GIBSON vs BROKEN ARROW WHITE- BA White has a lot of question marks... or so I'm told, or maybe their coaches are just messing with our heads and they really have all the pieces. Time will tell.  I just hope my boys can remember the difference between offense and defense.

CLAREMORE vs MUSKOGEE- Haven't seen Claremore at all. I have seen Muskogee and know a few of there coaches. I know they will be ready and if Claremore doesn't tackle well these kids will run thru arm tackles and make this a track meet. Going with Coach Butler and the Gee!!

DIVISION 4

BVILLE WHITE vs BA BLACK - Going with BA's LB on this one. He can cover some ground.

COLLINSVILLE vs BVILLE BLUE- Just going with Blue here because we scrimmaged them. They do have a couple of playmakers on D that can run sideline to sideline very well

COWETA BLACK vs MCALISTER- Don't have a clue about either team.

DIVISION 5

CHOCTAW BLUE vs BA GOLD- I think this will be a really good game. The west side teams are always a mystery until playoffs come along. I'll go with my gut feeling on this one.

PIEDMONT vs UNION- How does Union only have one team?!?!!?? That is concerning on a number of fronts. Is it a stacked team? Do they have over 20 kids? I guess we shall see. I did hear they lost Mello, thats a huge loss. Still going to go with them on this one.

NORMAN vs BIXBY RED- I'll go with Norman on this one. Coin Flip had heads...

CHOCTAW GOLD vs GLENPOOL- When I said earlier that there were 3-4 teams battling it out below B-Blue, I definitely have Glenpool in that group. They were already a decent team last year and then you add what they added, how do you not take notice?? Week 3 should be interesting. I think we'll both find out where we stand. But anyways this week it's Glenpool big!!

Good luck to all the coaches and players this week, and may everybody be injury free.

DIV 1

BA Silver vs Coweta White (Coweta White)
Coweta White looks the part. I have seen both Coweta teams now and it is pretty clear who got the better end of the skill position battle. That isn't to say Coweta White is bad in that department, but just how well Black has it. I have not seen BA Silver, but I am putting my stock in Coweta White here just based on the coaching I have seen.

LC vs Berryhill (LC) **GOTW**
This game has the potential to be as physical as they come! Both teams are impressive looking upfront and both are well coached. I expect this to be a tight ballgame with LC squeaking one out late.

Jenks Silver vs Sand Springs (Sand Springs)
I am unsure of which team is supposed to be the best in Jenks, but there is no question in this grade with SS. The only question a person could ask is if they will have a problem numbers wise. It is simple... If they can get everyone their 12 plays then they will have no issues and if they cannot then they will. This will be a common theme in my picks because 12 as is almost half a game.

Skiatook vs  Yukon (Skiatook)  I see Skiatook a little bit and I know nothing of Yukon. House money goes on Skiatook.

DIVISION 2

Bixby Blue vs Edmond (Bixby Blue)
No offense to Edmond, but Bixby Blue is the defending champs for a reason. I have seen them early this season and let's just say they didn't get worse. They actually got better. If numbers do not affect them they will be right back in the apt ga.e defending the throne. Numbers however are a possible problem.

Catoosa vs Owasso Red (Catoosa)
Normally Strategy and I ha e chopped it up a bit by now, but given the circumstances I guess we have both been too busy. He is one of the best and most knowledgeable coaches you can find in this league. Whether he is good or bad he will shoot you straight and regardless of what kind of team he has he they will ways play their best against you. Owasso Red has one of the best defensive linemen in the grade. As long as he can stay on the field he will be more than 2 hands full for anyone!

Tyaa Red vs Stillwater  (Tyaa Red)
Tyaa Red may be the best team in the grade this year. I thought they were the best Tyaa team last year and that is no slight to Blue. I just thought Red was more complete. They are building something special over there and right now if I had to bet money on 1 team then it would be these guys. No offense to Stillwater, but I haven't got to see you guys yet and I am sorry that this is your 1st game.

Hilldale vs Verdigris (Hilldale) **GOTW**
No matter the odds I will never pick against my boys! We open the season with what I consider a super tough test. This Verdigris team just looks like they have athletes everywhere! #18 and #23 are STUDS on both sides of the ball. Their coaches appear to be top notch and the rest of their team seem to be pretty good as well. Nothing coming easy here for sure. As for my Hornets we got better for sure. We have 2 - 2nd graders playing up for numbers purposes, but they are both pretty good for their age so they help us a lot. I feel as tho we have fared respectively in our scrimmages. This one will probably come down to whoever tackles the best and has the least amount of turnovers. Best of luck fellas and GO HORNETS! #BTA

DIVISION 3

Owasso Black vs Westmoore (Owasso Black) I have seen neither team so this is purely a guess.

Wagoner vs Tyaa Blue (Tyaa Blue)
Wagoner has some nice pieces if they can get it figured out, but this won't be the week. Who wants to play Tyaa Blue EVER, but especially in the 1st game?  This team is one of the best athletically in the grade and #7 has an argument as the best player. I am interested to see how this one develops.

Sapulpa vs Jenns Maroon (Jenks Maroon) Sapulpa has looked impressive the past couple of seasons, but I am going with Jenks here because of coaching. Nothing against the Chieftains coaches, but I met with and scrimmaged this Maroon team a week ago and their guys are top notch. This should be a good game!

Ft Gibson vs BA White (Ft Gibson) **GOTW**
As Forrest said he and I go back a ways now having met up twice. He has been through this a few times and although I am not sure if he is the HC by title I am sure he is more than just a helper lol. Great guy with tons of experience in big games and I haven't even got to how impressive this team was a year ago. I haven't personally got to see them, but I hear this little QB is a stud and full of moxy on both sides of the ball. They have one of the toughest non division schedules on paper in our grade and if they come away 2-0 then the rest of the D3 should consider that a notice. I just said BA White is going to be a tough out and for us I think they more than will be, but I am unsure based on what I have seen and heard how they match up with Ft Gibson. My initial thought is they will keep it close or possibly win it, but I have to lean towards Ft Gibson here. Definitely GOTW worthy!

Claremore vs Muskogee (Muskogee) Listen this has GOTW potential for sure. This Claremore team could be a dark horse to potentially cause havoc every week. Haven't seen them this year so I am going off of what the 2 teams looked Iike in years past. Moving from 8 to 11 man can be an adjustment for even the best of coaches if you have made the move before. As I move on to Muskogee what can I say about my home school boys? Being that I went to school there and we live here I am always a fan. These guys have great coaches and great athletes. Butler's son is one of the premier o-line/d-line guys in the grade and I have a special place for him because I coached him in baseball this past year. Kid is as strong as they come! Combine that with the speed a few of their athletes have and another McNac coming through on the both sides of the ball as well as coaching and you will clearly see as to why they can make some noise. We play these guys Week 3 and we have scrimmaged them as well. All I will say past that is 12 plays  is a lot of plays. If they can manage that then they will be in the playoffs.

DIVISION 4

Bartlesville White vs BA Black (Bartlesville White) We scrimmaged both of these guys and I am just enamored with the kid from Bartlesville White at LB. That kid is SPECIAL and the coaches do a great job with them all. I will trade you guys Ray Lewis for that kid tho! BA Black has the talent in the right positions.  Once they get it figured out they will be good to go. Most people would probably have them favored here and you could, but that kid from White is one of the best I have ever seen at the 3rd grade level.

Collinsville vs Bartlesville Blue (Bartlesville Blue)
Bartlesville Blue still has that super nice RB from last year from what I hear. If they do then I take that kid today and twice on Sunday. I know nothing of Collinsville so my pick is solely based on if Blue still has Christian McCaffrey in the backfield.

Coweta Black vs McAlister (Coweta Black) **GOTW**
I got to see both of these guys scrimmage each other last week. I was told McAlister was new, but that didn't matter. That have a really nice RB and some good ayers to go with him on top of great coaching. I am not looking forward to having that game for our last of the season. With that being said I move to Coweta Black. In my mind these guys are without a doubt a top 10 team in this grade. At least 2 great backs and the line to go with it. I like their offense and physicality. These guys must have got extremely lucky in that draft lol!

DIVISION 5

Choctaw Blue vs BA Gold (BA Gold) **GOTW**
DANG!!!! That is all I can say here. From everything I have seen or heard then this game is a top 10 match up straight out the gate. This BA Gold team is straight speed! Great coaching and legit on both sides of the ball. They could be a final 4 team or not make the playoffs... Why you ask? Even tho I think our D2 may be the toughest overall there is no doubt that BA Gold has the toughest schedule in the grade hands down. What I hear about Choctaw Vlue has a lot to do with that statement.. I hear they are STACKED and why should one expect anything less? Strategic drafting by these coaches has these guys down as the #1 team in the West. If they can beat this Gold team they may pencil themselves in as one fo theater 2 early on.

Piedmont vs Union (Union) I will go Union here. I know nothingmof Piedmont, but Jbig and co look the part. I do think numbers could be an issue long term and may be early on. As I said I know nothing of Piedmont so this pick is just purely off of what I have seen.

Norman vs Bixby Red (Bixby Red)
I am not used to a Bixby Red team not being one of the best in the grade. My gut tells me that xha ges in this grade at some point. I haven't seen either team this year so I will ha e to go with Bixby Red until I get a gauge.

Choctaw Gold vs Glenpool (Glenpool) Old man Chaney and the gang start off in enemy territory. Knowing that they have to play Choctaw Blue the flying week how much do they show them here? If the game is close expect that to be the only reason why. #85 and Melo have a supporting cast around them this year and they should be one of the favorites once everyone meshes together.  It is a quick, but long season. Don't bet against these guys!

As always EPO and all in fun guys! I am just thankful that we get to do this at all. As I have said many times before everything changes get this year. Those 3 extra players actually matter and being able to play"real football" can be an adjustment for even the best of us coaches at first. It is especially trying if you have 20+ players who aren't on the same level and you get in a close game with a decent team. Remember to film your games without interruption or pauses if you plan to turn in film and don't cry if you get caught cheating. There are rules for a reason. BEST OF LUCK TO YOU ALL!

Sorry late to the party!!!! Good luck to everyone and safe travels to all.

BA SILVER vs COWETA WHITE- Only got to see  COWETA so far. I hear that silver is a new team with a lot of first year kids. Going with COWETA in the one.

LINCOLN vs BERRYHILL- I’m a big fan of Berryhill #90 can play and in my opinion a top 5 linemen in this league. He will be in your backfield, so you have to account for him. #1 for Berryhill can also play he is a tough kid as well. Problem is they are going against a super physical team. LC #1, 10, and 11 will be to much for Berryhill in this one. Going with LC in this one.

JENKS SILVER vs SAND SPRINGS-watched both of these groups play already and I think that sand spring will run away with this one. Lots of kids on this team. Won’t matter here I’m going with sand springs.

SKIATOOK vs YUKON- This should be a good game. Yukon is better than you think in my opinion 2nd beat in the west which is a big drop off from top Choctaw blue team. Skiatook still has some good players over there. #36, #65 are really good lineman anyone would love to have em. New 85 which used to be number 28 is there as well. He is the most improved kid when I was there that is on the line. #15 is a super shifty kid and tackles well. #5 is a fast kid that will give most teams fits cause he is hard to catch. Time will tell with this group as the season goes on. I will say this week I believe will be a tough one. I think Yukon comes away with the win in this one. I wouldn’t be surprised though if skiatook pulls this one out in a tight one either.

BIXBY BLUE vs EDMOND- Bixby blue shuts the clock off in this one. #21, 20, 7 and there new Qb will be way to much for Edmond. Bixby all the way in this one.

CATOOSA vs OWASSO RED- Strategy team will be to much for for the Owasso team in this one. I know Covid has been tough on this team. I’m going with the Indians in this one.

TYAA RED vs STILLWATER- Red has a lot of speed and size it will Be way to much for Stillwater in their one. We played Stillwater last year and they do have a couple of good kids over there. #7 last year could play over there I just don’t think he will be enough this week. Red is on a mission they also added two really good kids to a good group. Red shuts clock off in this one.

HILLDALE vs VERDIGRIS- I watched Verdigris in scrimmages 18 and 13 can play. Just don’t think they will be able to stop #8 on offense or defensive side of the ball. Also Shaffer can coach so I think that the two factors in this one. Hilldale with the W in this one.

OWASSO BLACK vs WESTMOORE - don’t know much about these groups just a guess in this one.

WAGONER vs TYAA BLUE- #7 and #9 will be to much in this one for blue. Rushing says they are regular but this group has only lost 1 game to Bixby blue in 3 years. Blue shuts the clock off in this one.

SAPULPA vs JENKS MAROON-Sapulpa in this one 12 &22 to much in this one. Jenks has some good kids I think it there quarterback that can play. Just won’t be enough Sapulpa in this one.

FORT GIBSON vs BROKEN ARROW WHITE- This will be a great game 24 & 5 for BA are really good players. They lost a lot but don’t let that fool you they can still play. Problem is #6 is really really good I think he is the difference make in this one. Ft gibson in a tight one.

CLAREMORE  vs MUSKOGEE- Muskogee is a great group will see if the numbers get to them 1,7, and 47 are players and are the difference makers over there. Claremore will get better and better as the season goes on they have great coaching. Just think Muskogee will be to much in this one.

BVILLE WHITE vs BA BLACK-BA Black has a new coach added that I know knows the game and his son will be a nice addition as well. BA Black with 36 will be to bunch for Bartlesville in this one.

COLLINSVILLE vs BVILLE BLUE-18 for Collinsville can play if I’m remembering correctly.  There is a really good back at Bartlesville. I think this will be a tight one and Collinsville comes out on top.

COWETA BLACK vs MCALISTER- Coweta Black has some players on this group. They have two back amd a lineman that can play that for sure. Don’t know anything about macalaster, so I’m goin with coweta in this one.

CHOCTAW BLUE vs BA GOLD - BA gold has added a lot along with in my opinion the toughest schedule draw of us all. They have two guys coaching that D that know the game. 22 is still there which is a top player in this league. My brother Breedlove says they are fast and it raised my eyebrow when he said there are 3 as fast as his boy#8. The kid can run and is defiantly one of the fastest I’ve seen.  As for Choctaw they have there team back and also added a few to there team as well. 16 is a player and is really fast as well.  They also have there high school coach calling there offense. I think this will be a close one and I think Choctaw come away with the win in a close one.

PIEDMONT vs UNION- Don’t know anything about Piedmont. 15, and 9 are great players for union. I think it will be enough in this one to come up with the win.

NORMAN vs BIXBY RED- Bixby red is getting better and better every year. They have some big boys and a tough back. Don’t know anything about Norman at all. I’m going with Bixby in this one.

CHOCTAW GOLD vs GLENPOOL-never go against my boys Glenpool In this one.
