Scrimmage #2
« on: August 13, 2018, 08:33:22 pm »
Now that we know where we are going. Whats more important? Not being shy and putting ur best players and plays to work against another squad live or not showing your cards much at all and running against bags and air in practice?

Eye you know whats more important in scrimmage 2! Get THEM boys ready. Have to run your stuff live against another team 1s vs 1s hopefully if the others are smart. Of course get back up reps tho.

Week 1 get some new kids a lot of reps is what we do, week 2 Prepare for Week 1 game. Every year game speed changes ass they get older. Have to be moving pretty good by week 1.

But also sometimes a team like us this year...helping a squad that is really hurting and behind on every aspect so we have 6 plays in on a 30 play band wristband. But last week was a little rough so we will not add one play until we run these base Correct! So if we do assignments this weekend correct then we will add a couple so we not be holding back on plays but have a few more to install before week 1.....Hopefully  ??? Good practice today!

I agree u def can't hold back. The key is preparation. Even if a team knows what you are gonna run they still have to be able to stop u. I wouldn't show any surprise formations or trick plays. But def run your base O and D. We have 7 play in and only 16 in the entire play book. In the end its the smaller individual performances in a play that make it a success or failure. U can know what's coming but can your D tackle beat my O tackle. Can your DE get off my FBs block. Can your MLB beat my RB to the hole? Personally I don't care who sees what of ours. You still have to coach your kids up better then your opponent.

I do say less is more also on plays. Offense we run is really easy and not much changes from play to play. We Won't practice 30 plays. Have it set up where we can install a play or 2 week to week depending on Scout or maybe even none. But have to have the base down.

Question for you BA guy?

Do any of y'all get together these first cple weeks and agree to help each other out? ie. 1 team practice O on one day and 1 team practice D. Then can do a lil team at each other? I know you have to go over facing different formations and stuff in your install to prepare for year but just to get some live reps? Wouldn't be good during game weeks cuz of game planning. But these first 3 weeks could be beneficial IMO. I'm not a big scrimmage person once the season starts, actually just don't at all but try to get some in these first few weeks and Labor day Thursday.

Is this directed at me? Hahaha first scrimmage showed me a lot about my team. It wasn’t about Xs and Os I wanted to see how we all reacted in tough situations and could we learn from our mistakes. I think some teams did run their plays and didn’t hold back.

No we don't. At least we haven't this year. Last year we all got together and did that before the regular season started but that's it. I'm not a big scrimmage guy either. I think the kids will learn more in smaller groups and more controlled practices. Also it helps to limit the injuries.

That team from Kansas is from another league. Sometimes the infc will let out of state teams come to our scrimmages. We had a team from Arkansas join our scrimmages a few years ago in Coweta. They were big and had no weight limits in their league. So be ready for a big running back Saturday.
