slid tackle?
« on: October 09, 2017, 05:12:31 pm »
In the 2nd quarter one of the game a player slid tackled the opposing player from behind as he was heading to the end zone. GOOD thing the ref was right there watching...said nobody EVER...no call was made. slide tackled from behind i don't know if that is against the rules? i know it is in most sports. just looking out for the safety of the kids.

i have it on video if you want that.

Tripping the ball carrier is legal in NFHS.

no not like tripping. From behind two feet sliding and hitting the other players calf and ankles. not from in front of his foot.  but i guess it depends what you consider tripping.

The tackle you described and I have seen film on is perfectly legal.  Slide tackle or tripping the runner - perfectly legal.

Yeah most people don't know that you can trip the runner... But perfectly legal... Don't teach it but it's legal. Surprised the Ref even knew it was legal.

Really other than horse collar, spearing and face masking, any way you can get the ball carrier to the ground is legal as far as a one on one type tackle.  That includes tripping and clipping.  One player holding the ball carrier up and another one blasting him, especially high would be illegal with multiple players.  Someone may come up with something else as well.
