Play Count
« on: August 23, 2016, 01:51:20 pm »
I'm a 3rd grade coach and I only have 15 players so I know my players will play more than the minimum 12 plays. However, does kickoff and kickoff return count as plays? What about 4th down and the offensive team deciding to punt on 4th down by using the 20/20 punt rule? Does that "play" count towards the 12 plays as well?

Declared punts do not count toward the 12 play minimum as there is no actual play ran. Once a coach declares punt, it is marked off 20 yards from LOS, then it's 1st and 10 for the opposing team...

Right out of the rulebook: 3rd and 4th grades: all participants shall be required to play twelve(12) plays in each game, including specialty team plays.

Kid needs 3 or 4 plays at the end of the game so the coach sends him out to have the QB take a knee in the "victory" formation for 3 or 4 plays.  Onside every kick  and put those MPP on the opposite side on kicks offs.  Line up kids at backside WR and spread them out to the sideline as far as possible from the action.

here is a tip:   Coach up the kids you have and maybe next year they come back and are better players.   No one cares 20 years from now who won the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th or 7th grade Championship in INFC.  But, I guarantee these kids will remember that coach who didn't treat them fairly.

This is not a jab at anyone on this forum because no one coaching would do such dooshbaggery things.

If a player has not gotten their plays in, do not bring it to the officials.  Same thing with questions on weight limits.
