The way I understood it, was the center can no longer turn the ball. But I would love some clarification on this.

You are correct he should not turn it sideways but in 1st grade they do a lot of things that they should not be doing.
Mighty Might is a Developmental League - Things will be called tighter when the tournament begins.

Just out of curiosity.... what will be called tighter in the MM postseason tournament?  Is there a notification that goes out listing the things that will be emphasized for the officials will be look for?

Thanks

Username - just the things the kids should be learning like lining up correctly, snapping the ball and such.
Doesn't mean we won't miss some of them but they will be instructed to call it more.

Would u suggest to them to start that last weekend before playoffs start. This will give teams time to clean things up as well as keep the coaches out of the refs ear lol come playoffs

They should have things "cleaned up" by now really.  Having said that I know we still have to get them right quite a bit.  If a LB is a little off on being 3 yards off the ball or a lineman is getting his head a little into the neutral zone, that is one thing but if they are lining up over the center or a CB is only 1 yard off the LOS that is another.

Firstly, I in no way mean for this sound argumentative or rude, but I just wanted to take advantage of the opportunity that is here to discuss this with an official.

One thing I have always tried to accomplish in coaching, and parenting for that matter, is to be consistent with the kids, in everything.  Practice routines, rotations, scrimmaging, discipline, being calm (as much as possible) to show them how to roll with adversity and keep it even keel.

It is hard to explain to the kids what is going on, and prevent frustration from leading to decreased performance in the game when all of the sudden the game is being called different. I think it’s also hard for the officials to get it right when they aren’t doing what they’ve been accustomed to for the previous nine to twelve weeks.

I guess my question is, why do we decide it’s necessary to penalize the kids more strictly at the most important time of the year instead of doing what we (players, coaches, officials, and the parents who will be the least understanding of course) have established as the “norm” throughout the entire season?

And again, I’m just trying to engage in an informative conversation about the “call it tighter” playoff philosophy.

I understand where you are coming from and don't necessarily disagree with your assessment.  Mighty Mite is an instructional league though, everyone is learning (some at a faster pace than others).  This is the main reason why they don't keep standings during the regular season so the kids can learn without the pressure of trying to make the playoffs.  Lets more kids play, develop more players, teach them the game - lets coaches learn their teams strengths (and weaknesses) and for a lot of coaches MM is the first time they have ever coached.  So there are some reasons on why we might be a tad easier on the teams in the regular season.  When you get to the post season tournament, teams have decided to pay to get into a tournament to try and win a trophy.  I wouldn't expect officials to have to call many more penalties though because I would think most of teams that choose to play in the tournament will know how to line up correctly and such.
