Mighty Mite Clock Stoppage

Game today in Skiatook. 2nd Grade Coweta White vs Skiatook

Can you clarify the clock stoppage rule.

Per rule book -  Two (2) minute warning will be given at the end of the 4th quarter and regular regulation play will be in effect during this time (no running clock).

Officials did not stop clock and declare two minute warning. We were driving down the field and RB went out of bounds at about the 10 yard line, I saw clock still running with 48 seconds remaining. Quickly conversed with head ref about clock stopping. He said in Mighty Might the clock is continuous. I told him I agreed except for the last two minutes. He told me that was only 3rd grade and ump.

I know it’s the first game of the year, but I feel they should have the basics down. There were a number of other issues, but I chalked that up to being the first year. The game was already out of contention and calls/no calls had no effect. But just want to get ahead of this before it occurs in a game where it can effect the outcome.

You had the same officials we had! We told him it doesn’t run during extra points and he said it was continuous! We tried helping him but he knew it all! Cost both teams probably 4 mins between 6td. He also had no clue of the 2 min warning in the 4th. Also probably had 12-15 penalties in a first grade game between both teams. I’m assuming both were rookie officials as they didn’t know much IMO!

Pg 39 game rules. Two (2) minute warning will be given at the end of the 4th quarter and regular regulation play will be in effect during this time (no running clock).

I’m sure Bobby will address it and send it out to his officials on his weekly email.

Definitely a 2 minute warning for the last two minutes of the game (like the NFL has)
Now if the game is out of hand they will not do that but if it is a close game then most definitely.

I will make sure the officials know for week 2 - I send them the rules, gotta make sure they read them too I guess :)

@Director of Officials

I appreciate it sir. Might also let them know to note the time on the clock at the time a timeout is called. 36 seconds on clock when time out is called and acknowledged (whistle and waving of hands) by referee. While watching time continue to run I bring it to his attention and he ignores me and refuses to look at clock. Clock finally stops at 30 seconds. He then goes to head ref, notifies him of timeout and that I told him time continued running. They communicate too quiet for me to hear anything further and do not add any time back on clock.

They also allowed clock to run on all extra point attempts.

I know they are learning, but just trying to point out the issues I experienced so they can be learning experiences for all.

We had this same issue this past weekend at sands springs in our 1st grade game. We were down, told ourD we needed a fumble, they forced one, we recovered with about 28 seconds on the clock, (should’ve been about 40 but they said I never called timeout on the TD drive previous play and clock ran about 20 seconds before they finally gave me the timeout) I run out onto the field to huddle my offense up and try to get some plays in and they, both refs, would not let me run the ball and never stopped the clock on the turnover. I told them the rule and they both told me the clock doesn’t stop and that the game was over. This didn’t cost us the game or anything but it did take the opportunity to work on some things in real time game situations that we don’t get to do at practice and could’ve helped us out in future games. What was the point in our Defense causing a turnover if the refs just ran the clock out on their own??

I will send this out again this week to the officials -  you are getting new officials but there is no excuse not to know the rules.  Now Jterrell97 in your instance I would need to know if you were winning or losing to tell you what I would have done in that situation.  If you were up that would seem to me you would be trying to run up the score on the losing team and I probably wouldn't stop it for you either  ;D

@ Director if Officials

I’m not saying I agree with “running up the score,” or that that is what he was doing, only that I don’t agree with your previous statement. I do not believe the clock stoppage rule allows for referee discretion or “mercy”. While I strongly believe in good sportsmanship, the referee’s opinions or feelings should not be allowed to alter the rules.

I get what you are saying but Game Management does happen sometimes (and I am not saying he was trying to run up the score either)

We were down by 12. I wouldn’t run the score  up on anyone. I coached first grade last year and we kneeled the clock out several times. We were just wanting to run hurry up offense for future games. We weren’t going to win the game even if we scored. Thank you for replying.

Not sure I asked you where this was at, sorry if I missed it?  I will get with those guys specifically and the ones at Skiatook on the 28th should have known.  It will be item #1 on my email to the officials this week.

Refs @ FTG also argued there was no 2 min warning rule today.

Not getting that from one of the officials on that game, said the clock people actually had a buzzer go off to remind everyone? Time rules wer sent out in a league wide email to all officials for the 3rd week in a row on Thursday so feel free to let me know which fields/game times this is still happening.
