Cut blocks
« on: October 10, 2020, 01:59:51 pm »
A few year ago at the infc coaches meeting I'm pretty sure it was put out that cut blocks are no longer allowed. Am I imaging this or what? The refs today did not know and told me to contact infc. I think it is ridiculous to dive at a kids legs for pee wee football.

Found on page 23 of rule book. Offensive or defensive player on the field of play including in the free block zone shall not initiate a clip or block below the waist of the opposing player.

No blocking below the waist in INFC - I send it to the officials weekly in our newsletter, even had a video showing one this week.
What location and what time today and I will check into this?  And if anyone happens to have video of it, even better for to show them.  Please send to bkelleyok@gmail.com if you have any video.

I was so happy to see this rule had been added to the rule book. My oldest son who is 23 now suffered permanent knee damage in 4th grade because winning the game meant that much to another team. There is a 2nd grade team that has at least 1 of their lineman go into a bear crawl on the line and I was wondering since he does go forward would this be a block below the waist?

defensive line is allowed to "grab grass" they should not be shooting out into the offensive linemen's knees either.  I would say as a coach if you see this, please point it out to the officials and just ask them to watch for it.  and always send me film so we can educate if you have it.  bkelleyok@gmail.com

I think the grab grass "Block" leaves a lot of room for interpretation.

Well Shawnpr alot of things in the rule book leave room for interpretation. When it comes to grabbing grass, if a kid is bear crawling on all 4 and not lunging or diving into the legs of the offense to me thats not a block below the waist per the infc rule book.
An offensive or defensive player on the field of play including inside the free
blocking zone shall not *initiate* a clip or block below the waist of an opposing
player.
To me thats key why is ok to grab grass.

Mr. Kelly I sent you a clip to pass on to your officials. The play is the 1st offensive play of 2nd grade SS Black against Bixby red on 9-19-20 #6 on Sand Springs line goes helmet 1st into the defenders knees. He continues to block like that the entire game even on some defensive plays.

Yes Sir, film received - had seen this same video from someone else last week and I used it in our newsletter to show the officials what should be called.  Thank you for the film, that is how we get better.  Not saying it won't happen again but hopefully we will get it.  Also sent it indirectly to the coaches on the team, I am guessing it will be corrected but we will try to look for it if not.  I would say with 2 officials (MM in this instance) you may have to point it out (nicely) to an official and ask him to watch for it.  Lots to be looking for out there with only 2 officials and usually one of those 2 are rookies.  Have to learn what to look for.
