Defenseless player QB Passing
« on: August 23, 2017, 09:38:26 pm »
I saw this and makes me ask the question of a QB sitting in the pocket and tackling him from behind is illegal? or your saying unnecessary roughness to it IE helmet to the back or something. Please clear this is up. I don't want penalties for sacking the qb if  we can avoid it

A QB passing the ball is a defenseless player, but he can still be tackled as long as the hit is not late or to the head or neck area.

Think of it the same way as you would a receiver catching the ball.  You can still hit him, as long as it isn't a hit that would draw a personal foul or pass interference.

Sorry Blue Machine, I didn't see this one for a couple of days.  Just don't go in with your helmet and don't hit the QB in the head and you should be OK.  Obviously, late hits or unnecessary hit can still be penalties for roughing.  Sacking the QB with the ball is not normally going to be a personal foul unless it is illegal helmet contact.

Sorry to jump into this conversation but my question is what can be done about players targeting with their helmets intentionally? I have video footage of a incident where my quarter back ran the ball and as he was getting tackled. the opposing team did a bull run with his helmet right into my quarterbacks helmet and nothing was called about it or anything. What is it going to take for these teams to not allow it or to teach  these kids better tackling fundamentals so these kids don't get hurt and sent to a hospital for head injuries?

please send the video to bkelleyok@gmail.com as I would love to send it to my officials.   Not sure what else can be done as USA football & INFC does nothing but preach this to the coaches and we preach it to the officials to call head shots as well.
