6th Grade Nose Guard over the center
« on: August 27, 2017, 11:31:25 am »
I have a question concerning lining the nose guard over the center in 6th grade football. I have been told 3 times now by officials on the field that we had to move our nose guard to the side of the center he could not be lined up head up. I know the center is protected in 3rd and 4th but that goes away in 5th grade. Yesterday the official kept making our nose guard move to one side or the other of the center. He was not making early contact we were just using a 5 man front. Is there some clarification you can offer on this? I did not push the issue yesterday I just told my player if the official kept asking him to move to have tell him he needed to come talk to me. Was not a issue in the game outcome but just wanted to know how to address this in the future.

Here is the rule for ya. They are totally allowed to line up on the center. They can even hit the center after the snap.

3rd and 4th grade there just not allowed to hit the center until the ball reaches the Qb. No where does it say they cant line up over center. thats mighty mites rules where there not allowed to line up on the center.

Article 2:Section 19 Page29. Center Protected: In the 3rd and 4th grade level, the defense
will not be allowed to make contact with the center on a deep snap, including
shotgun offense, until such time that the ball makes contact with offensive
back or when the ball makes contact with the ground not direct hand to hand
contact.

Thank you for the clarification. That is what i was thinking but thought i might be wrong since the officials were the ones telling us we couldnt do it.

OURougher,

They can line up where they want in 5th grade and above.  You cannot hit the center in a kicking formation until he can defend himself but on a normal play you can hit him once the snap is complete.

I will clarify with the officials for week 2 on this issue.

Thanks,
Bobby Kelley
